I have a trigger lock on my gun because my autistic 9-year-old can't understand gun safety. But every one of my older children knows the very simple combination and where the gun is. We have alarms on our doors too. I wouldn't otherwise have the lock, but in our case we have to trust that God will give us time to get it off. But forcing ordinary honest citizens to lock up their guns and impede their self-defense is tyrany in the highest degree.

Just ignore the law. Keep your gun handy in your home.

Well said !

Also she shot her first deer last year at 150 yards right in the boiler room. Daddy's very proud.

As well you should be. Just how big is your house to have that big a boiler room? :=)

MY guess is that Charlie has never spent much time around the Criminal Courts!

What a shock he is going to have if and when he ever winds up as a defendant, being judged by 12 people who were too stupid to get out of jury duty...

Perhaps the young lady's first name is Ransom? I read right past the 100 yards part.

Nope wish I was the kid has a very steady hand. Even when I was very good I couldn't get that close. But I will tell you it's a pistol target not a rifle. I want to make some money off her with bets!!!!

As someone once said (paraphrasing): I'd rather be tried by 12 morons that couldn't get out of jury duty than carried by six friends to the graveyard.....

I don't think we have any disagreement about that! My point was that Darwin seems to have a naive belief in the innate fairness and intelligence of jurors (not to mention scum lawyers and judges, who are only lawyers who get to grade their own papers...)

I have spent some time in courts (not as a defendant, thank God!), and I am under no illusions that "Twelve Angry Men" reflects the reality of our system. (If you haven't seen that movie, don't bother- just more Henry Fonda posturing as the all-American Good Guy).

I've had the magana-trigger installed on a few of my revolvers for years now and they work very well. I don't like or understand locks on tools for defense just as I don't understand a parent who'll teach their children all about AID's, fire prevention, first-aid , strangers etc etc but won't educate them about the hazards of tools "misused". Be it a hammer or a handgun my kids knew early on what each "tool" would do if not handled correctly and used as prescribed in a proper and responsible manner. I'll proudly claim after many such lessons my Grand Daughters can drive a nail with a "hammer" or a "1911A1".

Magna-Trigger is installed on my "house gun" that is not on my person . Sad Story Pocat, I've seen it a many times while working as a LEO and it deserves repeating ............

Stay Safe Bud !

A Crock!!

These SOBs do this for one reason and one reason only. And that is, when they decide to come after you, you do not have immediate return capabilities. They yearn for Columbines et al, so they can implement these types of restrictions on the honest Joe.

Look at all the dynamic entry squads who nail the wrong house. Look at the resistance factor with this law and with out it and then you tell me...what is easier for them?

I say in regard to the lock up your weapons law, the same as G Gordon Liddy..."put two bullets in the head and one in the chest" of anyone who busts in your door without proper notice.

It is funny how this country is willing to regulate the many because of the actions of a few, but now that we have had 6000 + - killed in an attack on American soil, we forget this way of doing things....Why?

The answer to that question is the same as the answer to the article's I'm afraid...

I disagree most heartliy with the concept that the government does not kno best. Of course our bureaucrat supervisors know best. Like the sign entering Fort Knox says, "Sorry for the inconvenience, the delay and stringent checks are for your own protection."

Don't even suggest that you might do any thing to save your self. Just dis-arm and let uncle care for you.

Ayn Rand is among my top ten favorite authors, and Atlas Shrugged is her finest book, I think. But I still say that, given the choice to use one of my handguns in the defense of my life or my family's life, I choose to take the actions needed to survive, and, if successful, will take my chances from there on.

The problem with the trigger lock laws is not what happens if you have to use the gun to protect your home (and are later determined not to have had a trigger lock in place.) In that case, it is unlikely that you would be convicted by a jury (although, that is by no means certain).

The problem is what happens if someone decides that your gun lacks a trigger lock---and calls the police to raid your house "for the children." If you are found to be out of compliance with the law, I imagine you would be looking at a serious legal problem.

Yes, on balance, I have sympathy for people who disobey this law. But, I doubt the legal system will have such sympathy unless you had to use your gun to protect your family.

Your points are well-taken, and I have similar concerns about governmental intrusion into my life.

Perhaps, though, if one keeps one's own counsel regarding certain aspects of one's life, it is possible to make the
enforcement of the myriad of intrusive laws effectively nil. If carried to the extreme, I realize that such a life-style
is demeaning in a society, to the extent that it makes a person live free in spite of his/her government.

Example: A friend who runs a small business received a poster from the Labor Department which listed employees'
rights and gave information on how to file a grievance against his company; the accompanying letter made threats
as to what would happen if the poster was not posted in the workplace. His long-time (and sympathetic) secretary
intercepted the flyer and called him aside, saying "What do you think we should we should do with this?"
He suggested putting it discreetly through the shredder and then to the waste can, which she did, smiling.
They agreed that if inspected they would simply say that the item was never delivered to them.

The risk of non-compliance probably varies from place to place. Here in small-town Western NC, where most folks
own guns, and where our 80,000 county residents vote 60-70% Republican, things are probably very different from
the situation in metro California, say.
Personal freedom is so precious, but fragile, isn't it?

Maybe, but what happens if the school asks each kid if their parents own a gun? And if they do, do their parents have a trigger lock on the gun?

What do the kids do? You have to either tell them to tell the truth, tell them to lie or tell them to say "Its none of your business."

And I bet if you take the first or third routes, the school will have Child Protective Services knocking at your door within two days.

If fact, I bet the school calls CPS even if they are told your gun does have a trigger lock.
