Phyllis Schlafly: Are Mexican Immigrants Assimilating Or Invading?
Too Good Reports ^ | December 2, 2001 | Phyllis Schlafly

Posted on 11/30/2001 7:47:46 AM PST by Stand Watch Listen

Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, support for the United States has poured in from around the world, but the response from Mexico has been decidedly lukewarm. A Gallup poll reported that 78 percent of Mexicans oppose contributing troops to a multinational coalition, and we have seen no indication that Mexico will modify its oil policy of acting like a member of OPEC.

While there is no evidence that the 9/11 terrorists entered over the Mexican border, the trial in El Paso of an Iraqi smuggler produced evidence that he alone brought more than 1,000 Middle East illegals into the United States via that route, charging his clients $10,000 to $15,000 each. Border Patrol agents have confirmed the increase in illegal aliens coming from the Middle East across our southern border and the fact that Arabs pay up to $50,000 each for a "coyote" to smuggle them into the United States.

The 9/11 events have temporarily shelved the foolish proposals to grant amnesty to three million Mexicans illegally living in our country. Unfortunately, there is no indication that Mexico has retreated from its longtime goal of opening the U.S. border.

In Chicago on July 27, 1997, then Mexican President Ernesto Zedilla told the National Council of LaRaza, "I have proudly affirmed that the Mexican nation extends beyond the territory enclosed by its borders." He announced a Mexican constitutional amendment that purports to allow Mexicans to retain their Mexican nationality even though they become U.S. citizens (which is contrary to the U.S. naturalization oath).

When President Vicente Fox came to the United States this year, he reiterated this line, proclaiming that "the Mexican nation extends beyond the territory enclosed by its borders" and includes migrants living in the United States. He called for open borders and endorsed Mexico's new dual citizenship law.

Some Mexicans use the term "reconquista," which is Spanish for reconquest, to describe their desire to see California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas acquired by Mexico and named the new country of Aztlan. They are teaching their youth that the United States "stole" those areas from Mexico and that they should be "returned."

The United States acquired the Southwest a century and a half ago in three ways: part by the 1845 annexation agreement with Texas, which was then an independent republic, part ceded by Mexico in the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo after the Mexican-American War, and part by the 1852 Gadsden Purchase.

Mexico's claim to the Southwest originated with the 1494 Treaty of Tordesillas, which drew an imaginary line on the map to divide the Western Hemisphere between Spain and Portugal. Because geography had so many unknowns at that time, Portugal got only Brazil (which is why Brazilians speak Portuguese).

Other countries never recognized this treaty, and Americans consider it ridiculous even to talk about giving the Southwest to Mexico. Most national borders all over the world have come about as the result of war.

Mexicans obviously have no thought of invading the Southwest with troops, so their hope is reconquista by migration, both legal and illegal. According to Mario Obledo, founder of the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund, "California is going to be a Hispanic state and anyone who doesn't like it should leave."

An amnesty rally in the Los Angeles Sports Arena on June 10, 2000 attracted 25,000 people. In demanding amnesty for illegal Mexican aliens, the speakers proudly announced the names of at least a dozen unions in Los Angeles that are now headed by Mexicans.

Vicente Fox presented Mexico's Congress with a five-year development plan to eliminate the U.S.-Mexican border. He said he plans to serve "the 100 million Mexicans who now live in Mexico and the more than 18 million who live abroad," and to "strengthen our ability to protect and defend the rights of all Mexicans abroad."

Juan Hernandez, appointed by Fox as special liaison to Mexicans abroad, lobbies to get U.S. driver's licenses issued to illegal aliens and defends the Mexican government's issuance of desert survival kits to those sneaking across the border. On ABC's Nightline on June 7, he boasted: "We are betting that the Mexican-American population in the United States ... will think Mexico first."

Fox's five-year plan calls for building a larger consular presence in the United States, and this is already in operation. In U.S. areas with large Hispanic (including illegal) populations, the Mexican consul donates to the local public schools the same textbooks that are used in every elementary school in Mexico, grades 1 through 6.

The books, written in Spanish and including all academic subjects, teach that America "stole" the southwest from Mexico and that Mexico is entitled to take it back. The Mexican government considers these textbooks a symbol of Mexican national pride, guarantees a set to every Mexican child, and makes it a crime for anyone to sell them.

The only reason we learned about this Mexican plan is that one school in Santa Ana, California, decided to sell the books at a book fair and the local Hispanics kicked up a fuss about it. The school apologized to the Hispanics for selling the books, but should have apologized to the students for accepting the books in the first place.

The question we should ask our Mexican immigrant friends is, are you assimilating or invading?

Don't worry about mvscal. He was on a thread yesterday accusing me and several others as being a racist.

America haters use this term all the time as a tool to attack and try an attempt to make other look evil.

This is the premier anti American hating tool. And its all worn out and beaten to death. I have found that most of those that routinely use the word racism and habitually accuse people of being racist are generally America haters and hate anyone who is brave enough to speak out and stand up to their racist accusations. I told him yesterday to shove his racist accusations up his a**.

It really annoys me whenever I call a Government office to hear the phone instructions first in English, then you have to wait until they repeat it in Spanish.
Why don't these people learn to understand our languange, just like my greatgrandparents did?

Your still flailing your arms screaming racism like the little chicken you are.

How many Americans have you accused of being a racist on this thread.

What you don't understand chuckoo, is that Americans are sick and tired of million upon millions of criminals invading our nation, and pissing on our laws and sovereignty. One day, your going to find out how tired of it we really are.

Anyway, it is a big columned house-- huge. Owned by a Marcos crony. He allegedly had a joint medicaid (or WHATEVER federal arm pays!)...a joint medicaid care home/casino!!!! Full sized roulette wheel and all. Hilarious!

Eeegads. Makes us more and more irate when our parents, friends parents, ect...cannot get adequate medicare coverage because there "isn't enough to fund". I saw it (questionable billings to medicare) on a smaller level, but it's that eveyone takes a piece of the pie. There are barely crumbs left, thanks to those leeches.

It happened with the Irish. It happened with the Germans. It happened with the Polish and the Italians. It happened with the Chinese. Now it's happening with the Mexicans.

Amazing, isn't it that of all the nationalities you mention the Mexicans are the only to date that in their unwillingness to assimilate have had Spanish become almost an official second language. Spanish is the only language found now on government documents, banking transaction devices and most telephone answering systems.
It is not difficult to draw the inference that Mexicans do not wish to assimilate, to embrace the culture which many nationalities have contributed to nor become Americans. What I ask you gives the Mexicans the right to be so arrogant compared to all other nationalities that make up this great country.
The Mexicans are storming across the borders at a time in history after all the other immigrants have built this nation to be the greatest in history and the Mexicans are now like locusts swarming across the boarders to partake of the bounty which was achieved without their assistance.

Yes, many Americans of a vast diverse national background resent the illegals sneaking in during the night to scoop up the gravy. The American people are oh so giving but even the most generous will get fed up with hordes of ungrateful illegals that are here not as guests but have come here as 'looters' of our values, customs, traditions and the culture of many that have made us so great.
Resentment runs deeper than most folks would like to admit.

America for Americans and those that wish to become Americans!

You know, I have to wonder why a Mexican would want to come to the US (namely, Arizona) and have their kid educated. AZ's education is in shambles, rating #49 in the nation.

Here's an illustration. I was talking to a 7th grader, who has been here w/ her family from Mexico for 2 years. I asked her how things were going in school. She said "okay...it's all review for me". I asked her when she learned this material. She told me that she learned the current material she was studying, three years ago in Mexico. SAD! Maybe we should start telling the Mexicans that they would be better off keeping their kids there for school, don't come to Arizona!

Ah yes, the typical response to the Mexican invasion of the USA. Let me ask you this, when my Irish, Welsh, and English ancestors came to America were they eligible for welfare? Were they given job finding assistance at the employment dept. in their native language? Were they given free emergency medical care? Were they given more preference points for government jobs than some military veterans? Were they eligible for Social Security and Medicare even though they hadn't paid in their fair share? Were the Irish that came to Ellis island with tuberculosis allowed into the country? Did the Welsh immigrants smuggle cocaine when they crossed the border? Did these people NOT assimilate into the AMERICAN culture after 3 or 4 generations? Did my great grandmother recieve WIC benefits once my grandfather was born (during the depression)? Who the he!! do you think pays out the nose for all of the above benefits? Is it the Mexican illegals or is it the average American taxpayer? Well, considering the fact that most of the amigos that work in the fields here in the Willamette valley are working under the table I would say that Joe sixpack is footing the bill. You sir are comparing apples to oranges. History repeats itself and the USA is currently following the Roman Empire's recipe for self destruction with the help of your Spanish speaking friends.

There has always been some debate about what percentage of the population of the Southwest was Hispanic and how much was “Anglo” when the US acquired Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. I’ve read a number of books that have said that there were more Hispanics than “Anglos” out here and that most of the Hispanics supported the US claims to the territory, since the US government was better than the Mexican government. Here in New Mexico, this territory was mostly Hispanic in those days and might still be so today.

You know, a lot of Yankees think that the battle of the Alamo was a battle between Mexicans and white settlers from the East, but it wasn’t. Many, perhaps most, of those white settlers had intermarried with Hispanic settlers, and so early Texas was made up of many mixed-race people. I say “mixed-race” because many Mexicans are a mix of Spanish and Indians. Once Cortez landed in 1519, the mixing began. (Actually, it began earlier. Cortez found Spanish men married to Mayan women when he stopped off at Yucatan. The men were from earlier explorer’s ships.)

Did you know that all of Central America, from Guatemala to Panama, was part of Mexico in the early 19th Century, and that each country now was a former state in Mexico? The main reason Mexico gave up the Southwestern U.S. and Central America was because it didn’t have a large enough military to maintain and hold that much territory.

And of course you know that Mexico used to belong to Spain. Are we going to run history backwards for a while? Is Mexico going to give California back to Spain?

MAP

CALIFORNIA HISTORY

”Mexican Period

“When Mexico fought and obtained independence, California lost virtually all its centralized support. As members of an isolated community, Californios spent three decades in political confusion (at one point, a Californio-based republic was declared). The richest families turned to the one industry guaranteed to earn a comfortable living -- selling hides and tallow generated from the virtually free cattle that roamed vast ranchos. In an attempt to increase the non-Indian population, foreigners of all types were admitted. Soon a sizable minority of Yankees grew, dominating the merchant class and entering into important positions in the political and social structure.

“The Bear Flag Revolt and the Mexican-American War

“The defense of California, completely neglected by Mexico and lacking support from unstable Californio administrations, led to the unusual condition where any of several world powers could have easily occupied California. In point of fact, the Yankee residents themselves were the first to do it, in the Bear Flag revolt of June 1846. Just one month after, due to the Mexican-American war that in turn stemmed from the Yankee takeover of Texas, the American Navy took control of California without firing a shot. Most Californios were resigned to inevitable Yankee rule, though a revolt at Los Angeles led to a pocket of Californio resistance lasting from September 1846 to January 1847.

“Achieving Statehood

“California was officially made a territory with the end of the Mexican-American war February 2, 1848, nine days before gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill. Through some local PR efforts, and support in late 1848 from President Polk himself, a gold mania swept the States and the world resulting in the remarkable 49er migration. The population soared, quickly (and brutally) overwhelming the Californios and Indians. Political leaders seized the moment to obtain a constitution and voter's ratification by November 1849, with recognition by the U.S. congress in October 1850. Meanwhile, the great influx of miners was redirected to farming, trade, and business. The beauty, richness, and climate of California -- as well as a lack of options for bankrupt miners -- kept the population here long after the gold mania died down. The State of California, a chaotic mix of ethnicities and incomes, hopes and cynicism, was born.”

I'm happy you see that earlier immagrants had to have a much greater commitment to becomming American by virtue of knowing where was no going back.

There has always been a fairly good number of immigrants who decide that the U.S. isn't for them, and head back to the "old country." Ellis Island has an exhibit at their museum about this phenomenon.

Here is what Joseph Warren wrote:

Mistakes" have been made along the way? ...Such as the 15% felons Gorebot and Meissner made democrat voters?

...Such as the aggressive leftist 1965 immigration law which morphed a merit-based, generally educated immigrant class to a teeming third world horde.

Oh well, Rome was invaded by barbarians, and the Germans turned out OK. They produced Bach and Goethe, and fine machinery. As a matter of fact, about two thirds of Americans (used) to be descended in part from Germans.

...And Bush won, even though rotund Yvette Loranzo (wasn't that her sweetnesses name?), democrat of Texas, went to prison.

That's a pretty clear reference to her ethnicity. Why make a reference to Yvette Lozano in that post, unless he was trying to make the point that she did what she did because she is of Mexican descent? Her ethnic background *is* irrelevant -- there are slimy Democrats all over; why make a point of her, unless it is to prove some point that Mexican-Americans are disloyal?

How about this for modern history, pal.I moved to Ventura in September 1983. At that time, Oxnard Ca. was 20% Mexican primarily because there are a lot of farms out this way. Now Oxnard is 65-70% Mexican. The crime rate has increased 120%...the homicide rate is up 260%....gangbangers abound and older people are afraid to go out at night. Pretty little homes in 1983 are now slums by the HUNDREDS,and property values have plummeted.Don't spread your drivel here. I invite Jim Rob here to my area, and I will PROVE it.

Irrelevant to you maybe, but not to me. The democratic congresswoman on whose website she was listed on the very week she stole the Bush debate video....that congresswoman was hispanic too. Lozano (whatever her name is!) had also attended a democrat 'activists' school. Perhaps that was where she learned the dirty, imprisonable tricks. She's now in a federal prison where she has lotsa company of those with whom she is culturally familiar.

Give me a break. Former Democrat Mark McKinnon was responsible for bringing her into the campaign, used Lozano as a babysitter, and refused to attack Lozano in his victims' impact statement, so why don't you dis him as well? Since he's not Hispanic, so you consider him irrelevant. There are plenty of slimy Democrats of all races who do shady things. That judge in Maine who spread the Bush DWI story did more damage to the Bush campaign than Lozano did, but since he's white, you don't seem to care about going after him.

Re your post 175: It's not that she is 'disloyal'. Don't you get it? She was/is a kind of domestic terrorist. She purposely, disingenuously signed on to the Bush campaign with intent. For info on the relative numbers of convicted felonies her people commit, please simply visit the official FBI website. It's all there in black and white. Now if you want to argue that they don't have enough flour and beans for tacos and burritos, and that's the reason for statistical crime numbers, well- didn't we have that argument and experiment during and post 1965-- The Great Society? OK, we'll go at it again!

Where is Tustin CA?

Tustin is fifteen minutes north (inland) of Newport Beach, part of the formerly Republican stronghold of Orange County.

Tustin is an upscale newer community that is becoming plagued with crime from next-door Santa Ana, a Tijuana clone. Santa Ana has more Mexican gangs than you can count, and they spread their mess in the nicer communities surrounding Santa Ana because there's more to steal there. Gunshots are heard every night in Santa Ana. It's now about 90% Mexican, hardly any English spoken there. Santa Ana used to be a very nice little town, but no more.

It doesn't stop in Santa Ana. Towns nearby like Anaheim, Orange, Fountain Valley have also been invaded by illegals and the mess they bring with them.

Kalifornia governor Red Davis made sure that the pregnant illegals would receive prenatal care, along with all the other freebies, paid for by the unwilling citizens of Kalifornia. He kisses up to all the Mexican politicians in Kalifornia government, elected with the help of guess who? Illegals who vote!

Thanks. It's the same down here in San Diego County.

The final and perhaps worst dagger stab in the back from Davis is his giving ILLEGAL aliens the "in state" tuition rate at all state universities. This means that an ILLEGAL alien will pay 1/3 of the cost to attend college that the American citizen son of a Marine stationed in Kali will pay.

When I think about that, I nearly explode.

I was born and raised in New Mexico and have lived here most of my life. My families recorded history in NM goes back over two hundred and fifty years. That's an excellent basis for my observations.

What's the matter, don't you like someone debunking your boogey-man stories? Or are you a racist trying to justify your warped ideas?

Crime stats are crime stats. Do you not accept the accuracy of the FBI figures? We could talk about the accuracy of the data.

Nearly all serial killings are committed by white men. Does that mean all white men are bad?

Large groups of people who try to force people that were born here to "coddle and support" their attempts to take over and Balkanize our country should, can, and will be resisted. That said, there are many fine people of Mexican descent - the "keep the language" motivation isn't unique to them - researchers have found that at one time there were 200 German language newspapers in the U.S. As long as there is a constant influx of immigrants speaking the foreign language, it's relatively easy for the hardheads to have their way.

That's a pretty ignorant comment. Mvscal is a college graduate and a Gulf War veteran, but because of his race, he's just a gangbanger to you. How sad.
