Um, di-lithium crystals, perhaps?

Finally cracking that perpetual-motion nut?

Cold Fusion?

I may eat my words, but the tech-hype for this "IT" thingy has got to be one gigantic propeller-head in-joke.

They've GOT to be having us on!

That he discovered the secret of Coral Castle and the pyramids.

I think it's a flywheel scooter.

Well here's my "It WAG"…LOL

Power source is two arrays of ceramic micro-turbines fired by hydrogen. The two arrays are oriented in X-Y configuration so the gyro effect stabilizes the platform. The electrical output of, say 2000 in each array supplies the torque for the wheels.

How far off am I? Any engineers comments?

Thanks I put in a link to it also.

The "Segway" sounds cool but how practical is it? Can you carry anything on it other than yourself? Wouldn't be any good for going to the store if not. What about the elements? Say 20 degrees below zero in the middle of January or 110 degrees and high humidity, for instance or rain or ice or deep snow? How about the safety factor of driving? around the heart of most American cities with nothing between you, your money, credit cards, and the bad guys? What does the name Segway mean anyway?

It'll be interesting to see if Segway resembles any of these drawings from Kamen's patent application.

Technically not a difficult accomplishment.

If they can do it economically, and without screwing the real inventors, I'll be impressed.

Cool. The inventor seems to think this will replace all auto in urban areas but I don't think it is very pratical for many purposes but hey, I could be wrong. It seems like a hi-tech scooter to me and I wonder how many of these toys?? will sell at two or three thousand a piece?

Probably gonna be made in China for Wal-Mart.

Sigh...I don't doubt it. If your average Chinese factory worker could afford on of these people-movers it would be great for the "masses", eh? But they probably make a buck a day or so!

I agree. It seems that the hype centers around the unique method of balance. Ok, that's cool and that's an advancement. Other than that, how is it different than one of those $99 motorized scooters?

Does it roar like a Harley Davidson? If not, I probably won't get one.

The F-117 is an aircraft that cannot be flown without computer assistance; so my guess is that the Segway is a wheeled vehicle that won't work without computer assistance.

Bicycles and tricycles are probably out.

Will it be a one wheelie thing?

Oh yeah? How about 38 degrees F, drizzle and a 20 knot wind. Still sound appealing?

If they can get these into a mass market without a %30 casualty rate and dodging a flood of class action lawsuits, I'll be impressed.

balance is cool, but why is that better than being able to sit?
