Reconsider. Augusta GA is a well-kept secret. Nice town, low cost of living. Check out other areas of GA SC and NC as well.

Any "RED" state. If you don't live cold, Texas (No State Income Tax).

I highly recommend Arizona. Low taxes. Low cost of living. In general a western attitude about being independent (somewhat spoiled by the people who have moved in from socialist republics). Pick your climate, starting with incredible sun and low humidity in the desert valley of Phoenix to the snow and cold of the high country around Flagstaff. If you live on the edge of Phoenix it is cooler. Outside of Phoenix land costs are much lower. It depends on what you like. Great airport. Spectacular scenery. Mayo Clinic and other good hospitals.
Phoenix is a high-tech, prosperous, growing city. I love it here. It would take a SWAT team to get me to move.

Check out Grand Lake, Colorado. You get the snow in the winter, the blooming plants in the spring, the colors in the fall and mild warm weather in the summer. No better place on earth to live as far as I am concerned: http://www.mountainlake.com/Mlp.htm relax@MountainLake.com Ask for my buddie Scott or his wife Dona and they can help you with anything you need to know.

Well, I can give you 3 states NOT to retire in:
Massachusetts
Connecticut
New Jersey
Now you are down to 45 choices.

You are welcome in Arkansas, we need you. Northwest is a nice area.
Land and homes are cheap, taxes are low. You can live in the mountains on a lake but are within a reasonable distance of Tulsa, Springfield, MO and a daylight distance of Dallas, OKC, Memphis, KC, or STL. Beaches in the Florida panhandle or GulfShores are a reasonable distance for long weekends if you decide you need the ocean. Fishing and hunting are good. People are friendly. And did I mention that land and homes are cheap.

I am thinking you all move to Hollyweird - with little ole' me - overcome the scum, and make it a conservative town.

there is a web site I use frequently to see what's cooking where my kids live...but this would be excellent for you...it's called.. thousands of newspapers on the net......check it out....BTW, I would vote for Colorado in a heartbeat.

I've heard lots of good things about Gulf Breeze Florida. Lots of reasonably priced beach front property, A small town atmosphere and you get buzzed by UFO's occasionally just to break up the monotony. :)

If you need to get the most out of your money, go to Rapid City, SD. Winters are relatively mild due to the chinook effect (I have friends that golf there in February most years), and the cost of living is low. Taxes are the lowest in the country. You're just 10 minutes from the mountains. Crime is very low. Just a suggestion.

I'd consider New Hampshire. There are parts where they're giving land away. No state income tax. And more freedom-fighters per capita than any other state!

From my own personal travels across the US, I would recommend Arizona. The state is just simply beautiful.

Colorado may be crowded along the front range, but check out Grand Junction on the western slope, great place to retire. Not crowded, beautiful country....Bush country.

Oklahoma. Boiling hot in summer, cold in winter, miles from anywhere. People friendly, and housing cheap.
However, if I were rich, I'd retire to Phoenix or San Diego.

When I retire I often go to places like Big-O Tires. I used a Goodyear place once, but wasn't impressed.

Best place in:
1. Alabama. Huntsville, for a city. St Elmo or anywhere on the gulf, for a small town.
2. Alaska, rule it out due to cold and costs.
3. Arizona, choose Sierra Vista/Huachuca area. Close to cheap Mexican shopping for pharmaceuticals, yet not really all that overwhelmingly Hispanic, but learn Spanish anyway. Second choice, maybe, uphill from Phoenix around Cave Creek or Black Canyon.
4. Arkansas, it would have to be the NW but not to my taste.
5. California, I would avoid it unless I already lived there, in which case there are some hideaways.
6. Colorado. Hate to say this but I would avoid it.
7. CT, Del. Avoid.
8. Florida. Best area is the northeast coast, look closely, from Marineland north to the Georgia border. Hard to go wrong anywhere in the state, unless you hate hot summer or the humidity, which is much less bad on the Atlantic coast than the Gulf.
9. Georgia. A well kept secret. Try Moultrie or Thomasville, or Savannah, or stick a pin in the map.
(to be continued)

Skip the states and move to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

Northern Neck of Virginia!

If you want big city life go to Vegas. 1 million increase in population the last 10 years. Many seniors, so there is a lot of stuff going on for retirees. Very hot in the summer.
For small town northern Nevada or Oregon. Neither state has an income tax.
