Great news! For some reason I'm getting a little misty eyed...

That's ok, no harm, no foul. Just wanted to make sure, even if you weren't serious, that everyone else on this thread understood perhaps how/why it happened just 30 miles from Diego Garcia. They were keeping a sharp lookout for the 'tin-foil-hatters' on the other thread. Since many people don't always understand how/why the military does things, that can cause a lot of confusion.

You said:
"I really wasn't serious about the "gas guage" gag. I don't know for sure whether the bomber went down after a long mission or right after takeoff. So a crack about "all the way to Afghanistan and back" could be inaccurate. Also, there could be any number of reasons why it went down other than running out of fuel. It was a weak attempt at humor by me..."
If that's what happened, they're thinking the same thing. Otherwise, now that the guys are safe, it's time to crack a joke or two, to help those of us who were holding their breath.
No harm, no foul.

Memo to Officers Club Staff:
The side order of Beano is no longer optional when pilots order chili dogs and burritos for lunch. :=)
(Great picture but it looks like he may have punched out a little late. I've heard this handy hint to pilots: If it takes full power to taxi, you may have left the wheels up.)

This is a relief.... we all know there will be casualties, but the fewer the better.

The Navy is always the first ones called to pull you zoomies out of the drink. And the first one called to give us a ride to the real action.

Awww...come on...now everyone is going to wonder how they got a picture of a pilot ejecting as his jet crashed...it's a fuselage mounted on a rocket sled.....
On the other hand, I watched a pilot ride his ACES II out of an F-16 that crashed on the runway at Nellis AFB in Nevada several years ago. Was pretty intense.

Picking up a downed aircrewman is one of the most satisfying duties one can perform.

Don't you suppose that the Navy has a number of destroyers, or other craft, on station along the flight line from Diego Garcia?Probably, if Clinton left us enough ships to do so. Clinton sucks.

THREE CHEERS FOR THE RED WHITE AND BLUE!!!!America does have some awesome technology and dedicated, highly trained troops.
To: garyhope
What brought them down? Gravity, and the parachutes from their ACES II seats.
To: MindBender26
Thanks to all the military forces who assisted in this rescue.
To: garyhope
They haven't reported what brought them down yet. Most guess mechanical failure.

Thanks to all the military forces who assisted in this rescue. Dumb-asses like Osama seem never to forget that we have this sort of capability. I mean, having sea-based rescue pickets is a relatively small effort for us, yet totally beyond the capabilities of most countries. I have to think that a large and coordinated military effort is far beyond what the terrorists can even understand.
When I look at the incredible coordination between air, sea, space, and land in this campaign, not to mention the literally global reach of our forces -- it's an awe-inspiring thing.

Oops. "seem never to forget" should be
"seem never to understand".
I blame my assistants for the error.

USS Russell (Navy Ship) I'm sure nobody here thought it was an Army ship, or a bobsled.Well, sometimes we do have guests from DU.

Dunno. Hopefully it's OK and can still smoke out OBL and his gang.
