THE SEPT. 11 attacks on America and the war against terrorism have touched off an important, often impassioned debate about patriotism and dissent. Attitudes on college campuses in particular have become a center of controversy.

Last month, the Washington-based American Council of Trustees and Alumni issued a report under the provocative title, ''Defending Civilization: How Our Universities Are Failing America - And What Can Be Done About It.''

It isn't the usual "if you're not a LIBERAL when you're young you have no heart" kind of campus protests that have me concerned,
it's the 60's anti-American tenured university faculty, the heavy emphasis on foreign culture and in many instances, non-existent U.S. history classes.

"Taliban Johnny," was educated at Redwood High School in Northern California where there is heavy emphasis
to empathize with what is foreign. And a look at the school's history courses speaks volumes.

And what about the U.S. colleges and universities that employ extremists to teach our youth and conduct terrorist outreach? This has to stop!!

Is is too much to ask that our tax funded schools turn out educated Americans?

Defending Civilization: How Our Universities Are Failing America and What Can Be Done About It---"At a time of national crisis, I think it is particularly apparent that we need to encourage the study of our past. Our children and grandchildren-indeed, all of us-need to know the idea and ideals on which our nation has been built. We need to understand that living in liberty is such a precious thing that generations of men and women have been willing to sacrifice everything for it. We need to know, in a war, exactly what is at stake." Lynn Cheney, October 5, 2001

U.S. Colleges count on foreigners--If students are worried by the idea of a clampdown on visas, the prospect nearly terrifies college officials. At almost all research universities across the nation, graduate programs in the sciences and technologies could crash if the flow of foreign students slows. Without students from overseas to do crucial experiments, each risks losing millions of dollars in research grants.

Lynne Cheney, the wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, and Senator Joseph Lieberman

Go, Lynne! Though how you keep balance in that household is hard to imagine.

Read Tammy Bruce's The New Thought Police. An eye-opening book by a left winger with whom I could almost sit down and have coffee!

Ha! Maybe it has something to do with holding your enemy closer!

The Cheneys are dynamos. What a U.S. treasure they are.

Tammy Bruce's The New Thought Police.

Watch out for those left-wingers.
I see they've started to address the education mess they've created (although I don't believe they would characterize it as such)
and I am suspicious that this sudden concern is a smoke-screen to keep education under their control.

Sorry, but I didn't get back to the board until after work. Let's just say you can take it from me--I've been called a troglodyte on FR (in a loving way, of course). Let me know what you think! Gator

Absolutely. I was making a silly joke, taking off on the writer's sloppy sentence structure. In fact, Joe Lieberman isn't worthy of shining the Cheney shoes. He doesn't even have loyalty, making sure of his cushy Senate job in advance before joining the Gore team.

The Cheney's, both of them, are hard working American Patriots.
