Christian driver killed for running over Koran
South African Daily Mail & Guardian ^ | Thursday December 13, 2001

Posted on 12/13/2001 10:55:20 PM PST by Byron_the_Aussie

ANGRY Muslims beat to death a Christian truck driver who accidentally reversed his lorry over a copy of the Koran, the Muslim holy book, witnesses said on Wednesday. The 42-year-old ethnic Igbo driver, locally known by the nickname of Saint Moritz, was reversing in a well-known fruit market in the northern city of Kano when he ran his truck into a Koranic study group, said market trader Sa'idu Nasiru.

As they fled, the Koranic students dropped a copy of the Muslim holy book and the driver reversed over it. The Muslims pulled the man out of the vehicle and beat him up. He was taken to a police station for his safety but was pulled out by a mob and killed, said another witness, Danlami Habibu.

Kano State Police Commissioner Yakubu Bello confirmed the killing and said that five people had been arrested over the incident.

It is the second time in five years that a Christian has been killed in Kano, the largest city in mainly Muslim northern Nigeria, for allegedly blaspheming the Koran. In December 1996, a Christian trader, Gideon Akaluka, was seized from jail and beheaded by a Muslim group for allegedly tearing pages out of the Koran. His head was stuck on a pike and paraded through the streets. - AFP

Because violence against other people would not be peaceful. Christians are not people, of course.

...why didn't they beat the student who dropped his Koran?...

Beats me, compadre.

I'm still trying to come to terms with why someone would hold a Koran study group on a roadway in a fruit market.

Why didn't they beat the student who dropped his Koran?

Because it would hold the perps responsible? No, no...that's not right.

Because it would make the victims the true victims and the perps the perps instead of vice-versa?

No, no, that's not it...let me think a little while on this...

I'm wondering why they would hold one behind a truck.

Nothing he could write is lower than the Koran. I have read most of it. It's violently biggoted and woman-hating. An ugly ungodly book for ugly paranoid primitives.

"Nonsense"

Gosh. That's an excellent point you make there. And so informative. I have read it. It's violent, primitive, earthy and filled with calls for murder and violence toward any person of other religions. Educate yourself before you spout off like an empty-headed fool.

Liberalism must be crushed!

Hey Byron, when is that alternate ego, the Mufti, of yours going to show his face. Prior to 911 you called him up on a regular basis.

Big deal. You could say the same thing about the Old Testament.

The facts are, most Muslims are peaceable folks who feel just the same horror for the Taliban or the Nigerian lynch mob as you or I do.

What a monumentally ignorant post. I have read both the Koran and the Old Testament. You obviously have not. As no amount of truth can sway one who is invincibly ignorant, I am through wasting my time with you.

Same folks that applauded the deaths of thousand of infidel Americans..they are all liars and murderers..They care only for themselves. They will kill us as soon as look at us.

BTW I was thinking of their distain for our western sinful culture yesterday as I watched "covered" muslim women deciding on what color hair dye to buy..two faced double minded hypocrites...they simply hid their carnal works under a veil..

Stavka, most Muslims don't spend every waking moment planning to destroy the Great Satan. Neither this lynch mob nor Al-Qaeda are representative of Islam. In the years to come, we're going to have to learn to get along. Regards, B.

My same first thought.

The answer might be the same as to why some groups are given special status in America, whereas Christians are dissed and excluded left and right: because dissed Christians (real ones) won't come back and burn your house down and kill you.

Not the brightest bulbs in the lamp anyway. Remember the key words here are "Koran study group". Maybe Allah is supposed to protect them or they are trying to be martyrs

Yeah, and Moslem leadership worldwide has stepped forward and spoken loudly to denounce the murderous violence and ostracize the terrorists... not.

By their silence, they condone 9/11.

i've been clued into your message for a long time. the past administration sided with the wrong teams in bosnia and kosovo. even russia was chastized for defending itself in chechnya. how could we have been so wrong...or maybe clinton and his posse were in thrall of the UN. look to any major problems in the world and you'll find islam to be the villain.

Hey, I'm no fan of 'Moslem leadership.' From my viewpoint Islam is too subject to interpretation and administration by 'scholars', whose motives can't be subject to criticism. As a Christian, I have a direct relationship with God.

Vive la difference.

"....in 1992, Islamic assassins had gunned down my good and brave friend Farag Foda, a professor and columnist, a human-rights activist, and an outspoken critic of the Islamic militants. The murder had shocked Cairo and terrified intellectuals. . . Egypt's most popular preacher, Abdel Hamid Kishk, a blind sheikh who constantly attacked both the government and its official religious establishment. Kishk had been telling his audience that Muslims who entered paradise would enjoy eternal erections and the company of young boys draped in earrings and necklaces. Some of the ulema, the religious scholars at al-Azhar University, the governments seat of Islamic learning, had disagreed. Yes, they said, men in paradise would have erections, but merely protracted, not perpetual. Other experts disputed the possibility of pederasty in paradise. "Is this what concerns Muslims at the end of the 20th century?" [Farag] Foda asked in a column in October magazine. "The world around us is busy with the conquest of space, genetic engineering and the wonders of the computer, while Muslim scholars," he wrote in sadness and pain, "were worried about sex in paradise." . . . he was killed."
