Mallard Fillmore of 12/23/01--a classic
Mallard Fillmore via the Seattle Post Intelligencer ^ | 12/23/01 | Bruce Tinsley

If Freepers didn't see it in their Sunday papers today, check out today's "Mallard Fillmore" at http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/fun/mallard.asp

It's very powerful. Warning: it's a tearjerker.

I assume this link will change tomorrow. I wasn't able to post the cartoon with my old computer, so if someone else can post the cartoon in their reply, I'd appreciate it. Merry Christmas, Freepers!

Anyone have a working link? The KF Syndicate site says it's not available, and other sites that link to it are coming up empty also. Thanks...

Our man provided the active link above, too. I tried to post the cartoon directly to this thread, but can't get it right....

Tried all those links -- they all say that the image is unavailable. Do you still have it cached?

Tried that... no go. Evidently some people are getting it to work (or they've got a good gag going on the rest of us by pretending to get it) but I've tried two different machines and several links with no joy. Could someone dig it out of their cache and repost?

Sheesh... okay, never mind -- my ad filtering software (AdSubtract) seems to be the culprit. Got it now... sorry to waste bandwidth.

p.s. to OMIW -- thanks for posting that; very nice!

Let's see Doonesbury try and top that.

Doonesbury is garbage. We made such a stink about it that the Houston Comical moved the strip from the editorial pages to the funny pages months ago.

Not fair. You made me misty-eyed. :-(

I had an interesting discussion the other week with a substitute pastor, a chaplain from the local community college. She attempted to convince me that answering violence with violence is not the answer, and we should pray for forgiveness and guidance. When I think of the people dead and trapped in those buildings on 11 September and the families left behind however ......... I harden my heart against these evil men and want to make the rubble in Afghanistan bounce some more.

Perhaps, in this religious season of peace and forgiveness, I'm behaving in an un-Christian manner. So be it.

I have no idea what Doonesberry meant today. It had a criptic saying that teens today would understand and the fact that the character was talking about Peace at Ground Zero means nothing to me. The victims of 9/11 are crying out for justice, not Peace. The cartoon was like a feeble attempt at being current and missing the point.

Apparently the site(s) insist on setting a cookie before showing the cartoon. When I turned off my ad/cookie blocking software the image came right up.

I managed to get in. In case the link is broken, it's a cartoon of a mother and child looking out of the window into the night. In the sky is a bright star. On the table behind them (in the foreground for the reader) is a photo of a laughing fireman hugging the same little boy. On the right of the picture is this text:

Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come . . . shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Jesus Christ our Lord. --Romans 8:38; Christmas, 2001

Those seven last words, do they equal seven in Aramaic, Jesus' presumed language?

Although I have made numerous requests to the commies at the Dallas Morning News to balance their editorial page Doonesbury cartoon with Mallard Fillmore, they refuse.

Apologies to those who had trouble with the link. My computer doesn't accept cookies, so I didn't know the cookie at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer would cause problems for others. In any case, a couple of people posted the cartoon, so scroll up and you'll see it. It's the one with the picture of the fireman, the star, and the verse from Romans 8:38.

It's certainly a mark of talent if a cartoonist can tell a whole story with just one frame and not even a single word of dialogue between the characters. And what a powerful story he tells.

Or, you won't....oh well, I get the gist of it from the descriptions elsewhere.
