Senator John Edwards: abusing his constituents

Senator John Edwards: abusing his constituents in North Carolina
He talks like a centrist, but votes like Ted Kennedy. |
|
 |
BREAKING! 5/23/01 Senator Edwards joins most liberal senators in voting against the bipartisan tax cut plan The tax cut passed 62-38, meaning a great many Democrats voted in favor (including stalwarts Dianne Fenstein and Herb Kohl). But not John Edwards. He's far too busy cozying up to soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. North Carolinians must take heed that Edwards said "NO" to tax relief to working families.
|
-->
Synopsis
John Edwards represents North Carolina, a traditionally conservative state that voted 56% for George W. Bush in 2000. No Democratic presidential candidate has won North Carolina since 1976. To win his senate seat, John Edwards campaigned as a charismatic centrist and defeated incumbent Lauch Faircloth in 1998. Since then, Edwards has voted like a Massachusetts liberal. In fact, Edwards voted with the Democrats 94% of the time in 2000. Perhaps most damning is Edwards's vote against the ban on partial birth abortions, a gruesome procedure almost universally opposed by the American people. Edwards joined only 33 other senators in opposing this bill. It's clear that Edwards has higher ambitions than being North Carolina's junior senator. He has walked the thin line of talking like a centrist to his constituents, yet voting like a rank-and-file liberal Democrat. His voting record would almost certainly ruin his chances for re-election in 2004, but 2004 is also a presidential year. Considering that Edwards was reportedly on Al Gore's short list in 2000, there's no question that he is aiming for a spot on the big ticket in 2004. Back to top |
The Latest
The Cabarrus County GOP has recently started an online petition to let Senator Edwards know that his constituents are not pleased with his love affair with the liberal left. If you are a citizen of North Carolina, please do take a minute and sign the petition.

A few examples of Senator Edwards's failure to represent the people of North Carolina
- Voted NO to partial birth abortion ban (a bill which passed 63-34).
- Voted NO to the bipartisan tax cut plan (a bill which passed 62-38).
- Voted NO to eliminating the marriage tax penalty.
- Voted NO to repealing the estate tax (a bill which passed 59-39).
- Voted NO on the confirmation of Interior Secretary Gale Norton (one of only 24 senators to do so).
- Voted NO to temporarily suspending the gasoline tax.
- Voted NO to stopping the use of federal funds to distribute the "morning after pill" on school grounds.
- Voted NO to limiting the social security tax to 50% of total benefits (it had been 85%).

Bump from a proud John Edwards HATER. This guy needs to be stopped in either 2004 or 2006.
He reminds me of Klinton.
To: Lady In Blue
If it makes you feel better, John Edwards holds the "one-term curse" seat in Congress. For over 25 years, no person holding that seat has been elected to a second term. Observe his line of secession:
ROBERT MORGAN (D, 1975-1981)
JOHN PORTER EAST (R, 1981-1986)
TERRY SANFORD (D, 1986-1993) [filled vacancy, elected to full term afterwards-- then failed to win another]
DUNCAN "LAUNCH" FAIRCLOTH (R, 1993-1999)
JOHN EDWARDS (D, 1999-Present)

The only reason I decided to post something on him is that I was kind of ticked off at hearing Bill O'Reilly tell Russert this evening that Edwards was one of the politicians he trusted and that he(Edwards)had some good ideas! That's kind of scary coming from O'Reilly.

Sorry for the double post.
To: BillyBoy
I wonder if that's one of the reason he might run for president! I can't believe that he or his supporters believe that a one term senator would be elected president!
To: Lady In Blue
He's a flippin' ambulance chaser. Nuff said. Anyone with hair like that can't be trusted either in politics.
I swear the dems have a factory. They create these machines, and crank out politicians with southern drawls and prettyboy hair. Then they make them talk right wing and vote left wing...while idiot ladies swoon over them, and just enough idiot guys say he's one of us.
GRRRRRRRRRRRR.
To: Lady In Blue
IMO it's easier for him to be president than to get re-elected in North CA.
Electoral college gambit.
I'll say one thing too. I may be from Mich, but if Edwards doesn't run in 2004, I'll take a week in North Carolina to work on his opponent's campaign as long as it isn't a gun grabber. He or she doesn't even have to be strong on that issue, just not a grabber.
To: Lady In Blue
North Carolina is getting a huge influx of ultra-liberal voters courtesy of NY. I really really hope that there are still enough Conservatives to hold North Carolina in 2004 and beyond.
North Carolina is a great state, but there are too many Southern Democrats who Vote Democrat only because of the (D). Combine them with the New Liberal NY Voters, and you have recipe for disaster.
It is vital that Conservatives Hold NC, AZ, GA and CO. These states are getting bombarded with new liberal voters who are fleeing the chaos and destruction that they created in their own states. Nevada came real close to going Gore last Election, so Did Florida which basically has a NYC on it's Southern East Coast. New Hampshire is also going democrat. Conservatives need to hold off the liberals and win over some of the die-hard southern democrats. Our Nation's future depends on it.
Just look at the History of Vermont if you think that liberals cannot take over a Republican State.
Check out http://www.uselectionatlas.org and research the results for vermont from the beginning of the 20th Century. From 1900-1960 and From 1968-1988 Vermont Went Solid Republican. Then the Retiring NYC people moved in, and starting in 1992, Vermont has become increasingly democratic.

Might be a good idea to send O'Reilly a copy of that voting record.
The folks that live in N.C. might start sending letters to the editor about this - if the paper is one that will print the facts.
I don't live in N.C. but the way they vote will affect all of us.

Now,now Dan.If it makes you feel any better, this is one old lady who can't understand why some women think Edwards is attractive! He's too soft looking. And his hands and the way he gestures.Yuk! Forgive me Lord!
To: Dan from Michigan
Not surprising that he should remind you of the "Former Occupant of the Oval Office, 1993-2001". He is of the same stripe, but without most of the personal baggage. So far as is known, there is not much hint of personal scandal surrounding the man, or his spouse. But the thought processes are similar, concerning the Sovietization of America, and he would carry the agenda right back to the White House. Nobody yet has done much to focus on this anti-Americanism, but it is there, waiting to arrive by stealth. He will carry the mantle of "New Democrat" but the old socialist garbage will remain, just below the surface.
To: FF578
I see your point. Thanks FF578 for the info. It's enough to make a grown person cry! It's trully pathetic.

Edwards is a 'Dem "Pretty Boy!"
This is about Image, not substance. 'Backing Edwards, the 'Dems are in their "JFK" mode.
He IS dangerous; he appeals to the female "PC Types," who "Palpitate" over a potential "JFK CLONE!"--& overlook any "flaws" in his message!
Beware!

Yep. I think that's our ace in the hole. Governor's become presidents.
I'm watching for Roy Barnes myself.
To: Doc On The Bay
I see what you mean. Hugh Hewitt is also very wary of this guy.But if we can all see through this trial lawyer,I think that a lot of Americans will also.In my opinion, he doesn't hold a candle to GWB in personal qualities, personality or looks. As a young kid, I was never attracted to so-called pretty boys(i.e.John Derek).I always liked the tough guys, the gangsters! I guess I was a goofy kid but I never liked men who were prettier than me,not that I think Edwards is attractive at all.
To: FF578
NC scared me in 2000, but 56% went for Bush. That doesn't sound like a huge influx of lib voters, especially with a large black population there.
Georgia seems to be moving to the right actually voting wise. Colorado is becoming scary, and AZ is a toss up now.
I think the GOP needs to go after the rural dem areas of Iowa, Wisconsin. Michigan is moving ever so slightly to the right as well. West MI is having a population boom. That's a good thing.
I expect toss ups in 2004, 2008, and 2012.
To: Lady In Blue

this photo was included but for some reason,it didn't come out when I posted it.Is this guy soft looking or what?!
To: Lady In Blue
Bill O'Reilly tell Russert this evening that Edwards was one of the politicians he trusted and that he(Edwards)had some good ideas! Juxtaposing John Edwards against the word "ideas" never occured to me before. Other than perhaps unleashing the trial lawyers, just what ideas does Edwards have, much less good ones?

New Hampshire is also going democrat. Tell me the f$#^ about it!!!
These losers screw up their own State ( I know, I'm a transplant too...but I voted AGAINST all their statist crap) and instead of ending their own bad behaviour and misery...they leave it for others to pick up after them.
Then, they move out of State, and immediately try to recreate WHAT THEY DID TO MESS IT UP IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
AAAAAUGH!!!! They REALLY piss me off! If you WANT Kindergarten...PAY FOR IT YOURSELF!!! Stop picking MY pocket!
If you want "more services"...PAY FOR THEM YOURSELF! Stop trying to give me an Income Tax or a Sales Tax!
Yeesh!

There is quite a large influx of voters from out of state, especially in the past 12 years. A lot of them especially in the Western part of the state are from NY via Florida. In the Eastern part of the state it is a lot of folks drawn by RTP. A lot of soccer moms, and I mean a lot!!

North Carolina is home to one of the largest Marxist/Communist elements in the nation. The North Carolina Communists keep a low profile, but they're there in abundance. There is also a significant Communist element in Minnesota, where they make a bigger splash.
To: Dan from Michigan
You're right,it seems like in the last 3 decades and more, governors are elected.I still think it's a lot of nerve for Edwards, after only one term as a senator to think he's ready to become President!
To: Lady In Blue
He looks like a pansie.
To: billbears
Pardon my ignorance, but what is RTP?
To: Lady In Blue
Trial Lawyer arrogance. Geoff Fieger in Michigan thought he was ready to be governor. 65% said no deals.

From the little window at the top of your post:
The Latest
The Cabarrus County GOP has recently started an online petition to let Senator Edwards know that his constituents are not pleased with his love affair with the liberal left. If you are a citizen of North Carolina, please do take a minute and sign the petition.
I tried this link to sign the petition and found the following message posted:
In respect for those slain and injured in the terrorist attack on American soil on 11 September 2001, and in the hopes that all US elected officials will set aside partisan politics and join together to help heal our nation, we are temporarily pulling our petition to US Senator John Edwards. Please join us in praying for the victims of this national tragedy, for their families, for our nation's leaders, and for our nation.
I bookmarked the site and will check back to sign the petition when available....I live in NC and will be doing everything I possibly can to discourage people from voting for Edwards in a run for re-election to the Senate or in a run for the Presidency....we do not need another William Jefferson Clinton in our White House!

Let's not forget all the Mexicans! 5 years ago it was unusual to see a bi-lingual cash machine or any other sign. Now it's unusual to not see them. They are a reliable Dim voting block.

North Carolina is home to one of the largest Marxist/Communist elements in the nation. Yup,the whole Raleigh,Durham,Chapel Hill,Winston-Salem,and Greensboro areas are crawling with them. They got into bed with the all the greedy NC followers of King Franklin in the 20's and 30's,and have been there ever since.
To: Dan from Michigan
Pardon my ignorance, but what is RTP? "Research Triangle Park". It's the high-tech business part of the Raleigh/Durham area, and attracts all the leading communists and other airheads from places like San Jose and NYC.

Sorry, I just assume everybody knows what it stands for, one of those local things, I know. One interesting thing about the area is Orange County Community College(otherwise known as University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) is right next to Durham and is probably the worst of the colleges in the area for lefties
