My Aunt has cancer - alternative treatment knowledge wanted
St. Georg Hospital ^ | 12/30/01 | Go Gordon

My aunt has cancer and is currently undergoing traditional treatment. To date, it does not appear to be working. At Christmas dinner, I was told she was contemplating looking into alternative treatments, specifically one offered at St. Georg Hospital in Germany. There, they offer Whole Body Hyperthermia.

From the literature Hyperthermia appears to be a process where the entire body (except the head) is super heated to 106 or 107 degrees. I have absolutely no medical background whatsoever. So I was hoping for two things to come from my post. 1) Does anyone know about the success or lack thereof of this procedure or know about St. Georg Hospital. 2) does anyone have any good suggestions for other possible alternative treatments.

In case its helpful, although I don't have all the details, I think the cancer started in the uterus, but has now spread to the lungs and elsewhere.

I would be so grateful to anyone that can provide some good information. I have already done a google search on Dr. Burzynski (Texas) and Dr. Douwes (Germany). If any freepers know of anyone that has undergone alternative treatments and met with success, can you please post information relative to the type of treatment and where I can get info on the treatment/procedures. Thanks....John

Are they tumors?

My uncle has his PHD in the study of plants and insects and works at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Urbana, Il. A few years ago, he came across a plant chemical in Argentina or somewhere that dissolved large tumors up to 80% and totally dissolved small tumors.

I think they sent the info to the Medical branch of the university in Chicago.

You might try contacting the university for any new procedures they are trying there. Our renter's son had cancer and they were going to try something similiar that came out of Chicago but the treatment would have been given at St. Jude's but the child was in too bad shape.

Tried Baylor, the Mayo clinic or John Hopskins? They are three of the best hospitals for experimental treatments, I hear.

I don't know anything about this hospital or treatment in Germany but since my uncle just returned from a 3 month speaking sabbatical in Germany, he might have heard something so I'll see if I can get ahold of him and ask him about it.

It used to be Sloan Kettering in New York that was THE place to go for "new" cancer therapies/treatments. Have not been paying a lot of attention for quite a while. Have not heard of the method you describe, but have heard/read very good things about a "holistic" approach, especially involving diet and a "positive mental outlook."

Your aunt and family will be in my prayers.

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt having cancer and I hope she will find an effective treatment.

If I had cancer, I would go to the nearest Cancer Center. All Cancer Centers communicate with the big places you have likely heard of. I would find out there what are the standard treatments and also what they know of alternative treatments.

I would also look into alternative treatments. When making a choice, it is usually not and either/or proposition. I would give great weight to well-studied treatments, not much weight to those that are only promoted by anecdote and testimonials.

If there is a standard treatment with reasonable hope of success, I would not be a guinea pig for an unproved treatment like the one you describe. It sounds dangerous.

If, however, I was convinced I was soon to be on my way out of this world, I might go for broke.

John:

First, try www.clinicaltrials.org to see what conventional medicine is doing with experimental treatments.

There are several cases of previously incurable cancer being apparently cured in recent years, in clinical trials or animal trials (with clinical trials upcoming). Examples are pancreatic cancer and gliablastoma.

Try finding a good clinical trial before you venture into the quack-infested world of alternative medicine.

Best wishes to your aunt.

Look on the internet for "Essiac Tea". It's an herbal tea that CURES cancer. Yes, I said CURES. I know of 3 people who have used it to marvelous results. Please investigate this. It's the real thing. It will also help to keep anyone in general good health. I've been taking it for 7 years, and I haven't had a single cold in all that time.

I think the cancer started in the uterus, but has now spread to the lungs and elsewhere.

In cases of manifold metastasis such as you describe, the "cure" is secondary to the treatment of the affected organs; almost anything you try now has about as much chance of reversing the condition as the established procedures; I'm sorry, for whatever that is worth.

Hyperthermia works locally, but it's not known if it works in the total body. (it works for some things, like tertiary syphillis, where they induced malaria fevers to cure it. But if it worked for Cancer, we would see cancers disappear in Africa)

Have you tried Cancer treatment centers of America? They combine regular therapy and alternative treatments.
