Clinton Should Focus on Others, Not Himself

Pity poor Bill Clinton. While the rest of the country is worried about the war on terrorism, he's agonizing over -- surprise! -- his own legacy.

Seems that Clinton gathered a bunch of former aides and Cabinet secretaries to his New York office last week out of concern that his accomplishments as president have slipped from memory. They agreed to organize a corps of supporters to talk up his achievements and keep his profile from disappearing.

``We have to remind people of what we did on the economy, what we did with the crime bill, what we did with terrorism,'' one Clinton adviser told the New York Times. ``They're trying to pin the bin Laden thing on us.''

It's not unreasonable to muster one pang of sympathy -- just one -- for the ex-president. Even in the best of Clinton days (before the Lewinsky escapade), his strengths -- such as balancing the budget to help point the economy upward -- went unrecognized by his frothing opponents.

But Clinton's time as president is over. His latest scheme showcases perhaps Clinton's fatal flaw -- his boundless, blinding love of himself.

Better he should take a cue from the last Southern Democratic president, Jimmy Carter. In the two decades since he left office, Carter established a foundation in Atlanta promoting peace and democracy worldwide. If he isn't building houses for Habitat for Humanity, he's monitoring elections in Guyana or Indonesia.

Clinton could do the same, devoting himself to one of the issues he embraced during his presidency -- perhaps racial reconciliation or national service. Aside from improving the world, Carter's post-presidential service has transformed his image from failed president to wise elder statesman. If Clinton looked beyond himself for a change, he might be able to do the same.

I agree Clinton should say nothing and all those who seemed dedicated blaming the events on 9/11 on him should also say nothing. He has been out of office for nearly a year now and it is time for his enemies to get a life. However, as long as his enemies are obsessed with their hatreds and have a rather wanton disreguard for the truth we can hardly blame Clinton for defending himself against the frequent, false and vicious attacks about him, his family, and his administrtation.

Certainly too many people spend too much of their time hating clinton, but that doesn't require any disreguard for the truth. There's simply too much well documented information on clinton -- his felonies, including perjury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and rape -- to need to fabricate anything.

No -- the only people who had any disregard for the truth were the Clinton apologist.

If Clinton looked beyond himself for a change, he might be able to do the same [become a "wise" elder statesman as Carter has done].

That help?

It's why he can lie under oath since he does not think he's lying.

If he does not think he is lying then he is not. Lying is knowingly providing a false information. If you believe what you are saying is true then you are not lying you or only mistaken.

Okay so I'm being semantically trivial.

All these charges may be true, but don't forget that our esteemed US Senate deemed that none met the level of impeachable offense. So remember how your senator voted so that you can cast your vote accordingly the next time the clown runs for election.

You forgot his most damnable offense. The one that really irks conservatives. The only one that matters to Republicans. He WON TWO ELECTIONS. Truth be told that is the real reason he is so hated.

Thank you, but no. My problem is simply a failure of the imagination: I cannot imagine Clinton looking ... [gasp] ... beyond himself.

... it was difficult for me to even type it out.

there are certain traits missing from his personality make-up: a sociopath

Three or so years back I posted a list of sociopathic traits here on FR. I inferred that BOTH Bill and Hillary made a perfect sociopathic couple. I wish you could've seen my finger as I hit the enter button. I did it with fear and trepidation. A number of people thought I was crazy and stupid, because I happened to use the word psychopath. But, there were some people who got it back then.

Traits of a Psychopath:

I made a list of each trait that Bill has and then made another list of traits that Hillary has. Each of them are missing four traits from the list BUT they are not missing the same traits.

Conclusion: Bill and Hillary are a perfect psychpathic couple.

This author needs to get his/her head out of his/her butt. Clinton has done nothing but divide the country since he first disgraced the national stage. I get so sick and tired of these people who give so much moral credit to that couple. They are rotten to the core, they think of no one unless that person can benefit them in some way, they would mow down anyone who gets in their way, they only voice support for an issue so as to get votes, and they are low-class white trash.

As far as I am concerned, the Clintons have only two redeeming qualities; 1) they are not immortal and, 2) they don't live near me.

Yep, they preferred to keep there head in the sand and not look honestly at the truth. My senators both voted to convict.
If they hadn't, I'da been on their case like white on rice.

You mean that nobody has said anything negative about Clinton since he left office. I guess Barbara Olson didn't write a book. I guess nobody has suggested that Clinton was responsible for the events of 9/11. I guess Rush never mentioned anything about Clinton.

You must be the only person in the world who hasn't seen anything negative printed about Clinton since he left office.

``We have to remind people of what we did on the economy,...."

Yes, and as we learn more, Clinton sold the US out to maintain good economics so his minions could praise his administration to the highest terms - now we're paying in blood for his "good economic" times. This man is shameless and the American people who voted for him are blind, and the media that couldn't get beyond their bias deserves all our wrath!

Actually, Nightstalker part of the reason, a big part, is why a family member spent weeks picking body parts out of the site where the WTC used to stand. Bubba did nothing about OBL or his sociopathic brotherhood for 8 years. As far as I'm concerned Bubba's legacy is now lying at the bottom of a scene of horrific and heatbreaking carnage.

vicious attacks about him, his family, and his administrtation.

I think the real shame is that HIS SUPPORTERS have a "wanton disregard for the truth!"

That is truely a hillarious comment you made - I hope it was in jest!

Oh, come now. You won't convince anyone here that Clinton has been treated harshly by the press. I see your contempt for Rush showed through as well. I estimate that anyone who spoke the terrible truth about the Clintons made you angry also.

Read the list of crimes attributed to the Clintons above again. Then count to ten. Then ask yourself why you are defending these people?
