Comparing the religious Christian right to the Taliban simply won't pass the suspension of disbelief test with most Americans who are otherwise somewhat apart from the CR. The Dems won't do it. They are not suicidal idiots. Whomever is pushing this scenario is on crack on this one IMO.

I'm hoping that drugs have killed the last brain cells from the liberal 60s.

They are not out to convince anyone, they want to motivate their base to get out and vote. This will be targeted at Jews--a Jewish version of the Black dragged behind a pickup truck ad. That one was very effective. I'm hearing and seeing the Taliban connection already in Palm Beach County. Editorial cartoon the other day in the Sun Sentinel had Tom Delay dressed up as Bin Ladin.Randi Rhodes on WJNO hammers the Taliban connection daily. The condo critters eat this stuff up.

I totally agree. This crap might have passed before, but the democrats are changing their tune on issues like the military to prove it is them that is not out of the mainstream. What happened right after the most horrific attack on America? People flocked to the churches to pray and the Bible quickly became a best seller. This is just about the dumbest political plan I could think of barring something like outright support for Osama Bin Laden. I hope the democrats do this because its such a stinker, but I don't think they are that stupid.

If by some chance the Democrats perpetrate this abomination, they will display that they are the suicidal maniacs = taliban, especially with that Neanderthal, Terry McCauliffe running the show. How in the hell did that guy ever become rich? He sure is dumb!!

"Comparing the religious Christian right to the Taliban simply won't pass the suspension of disbelief test with most Americans " -Torie

"Democrats aren't stupid. They're very clever and have some intelligence. If they try to do this they can kiss goodbye to ever winning an election again. Period. " - ChicagoRepublican

"I find it hard to believe that even the Democrats would be dumb enough to use the "religious right" as a campaign issue when the states that are up for grabs this year have a large number of Catholic swing voters or evangelical Christians " -Holden Magroin

Someone said, "no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American population". Clinton rose to power in 92 by an aggressive and well-organized assault while the senior Bush administration was in deep denial.

I don't think half the people here can even articulate a good defense of the Taliban charge. What's more disconcerting is that most here don't even see its appeal.

Perhaps they didn't grow up among peers lampooning the caricature of a sexually repressed, perpetually constipated and out of control religious fundamentalist blaming all his problems on the lack of morals, values and discipline in kids today. Perhaps they've only dismissed, but never deconstructed liberal intellectual arguments that tolerance, cultural balance and social integration are every bit as important as being technically right. The Taliban analogy may hit home with all those that have been exposed to the culture of the left.

1) Don't repeat the mistake of Bush senior in underestimating the appeal of a well-run Democrat attack.
2) Don't repeat the mistake of Congress believing that America had changed after the Republican revolution of 92.

I think the Taliban comparison will be effective unless a well-organized defense or counter attack is made. But people here are right in your thinking that if the trigger is pulled with this thing, Democrats will be vulnerable to a well organized counter attack. But they can only be made to look small and vindictive if a serious and persistent effort from the top down is made to discredit them, to label them as small obstructionist partisans who are full of hate.

I think that there should be a phrase of some kind that's as succinct and as powerful as "Taliban" that's repeated so much that whenever Taliban is thrown out, the counter automatically comes to mind.

Sorry Torie, I disagree. The democRATS are desperate enough to try exactly this. In fact, I've already heard some of this floated on Chicago talk radio.

The democRATS are struggling to find a way to break President Bush's 85%+ approval rating. The highest and longest sustained approval rating in history!

They're already "breaking" down in desperation. Little Tommy Dasshole's proclamation "thank God the Democrats are here to stop this economic stimulus" hasn't been sitting well with some of the more "moderate" democRATS. Zell Miller is reportedly ready to jump ship, or at least declare his Independent Status. Jumping Jim Jeffords is likewise disillusioned with how he's been treated since he GAVE control of the Senate to Little Tommy Dasshole, since his two pet programs - dairy subsidies for Vermont and Special Education funding - have both hit the trash bin.

I say, the demoncRATS are stupid desperate enough to try this. And as with about every stupid move they've made in 2001, President Bush will be there to punch 'em square in the nose. :)

Unfortunately, sometimes Christians (the ones I refer to as the religiously intolerant sect of Christians) provide great assistance to those who are attacking them and all Christians. Take for example the book burning incident in New Mexico recently. I don't agree with those that were involved, and I know they feel they were right, BUT if I'm Joe Average Citizen sitting home watching the network news I don't need Dan Rather or Peter Jennings to put an opinion in my head. Joe Average is going to equate book burning to something Nazis or Communists do. They are going to have that 'gut reaction' and they are going to tune out anything else the Christians involved have to say. And then the Rather's and the New york Times break out the 'brush' and paint ALL Christians as the same .... religious kooks.

The moral is, don't give the enemy ammunition to use against you! Thanks to the religiously intolerant sect of Christians out there, if I tell someone I'm a God fearing Christian, they look at me like I three eyes in my head.

Oh? Look at how many were led to think Bush was a conservative...

Never underestimate the idiocy of the sheeple.
