"the web page still wants a credit card number. "

I didn't enter one. I still got a confirmation.

Just received my course materials. Two boxes, probably 15 pounds all together, included study guides, instruction manuals, two t-shirts, two highlighters and pens, and certificates for free testing for Compaq engineer certification. Also includes Redhat 7.1, and all sorts of Compaq admin tools on CDs. Don't know that I'll ever complete it, what with school and all, but now I have the stuff, and I can set up my own server here at home and play with it.

Hey, Britton...how'd you get that corporate XP to follow you home? I've been trying to talk our copies into it, but they're not listening and refuse to come out of the bosses office.

heh heh heh

I just ordered the kit.

I worked for Compaq up until Oct. 2000. It was a great company to work for, laid back, casual and fair. My trade is tech. writing and I work at a company as a staff writer consisting of all ex-Compaq employees. We all still work on Compaq stuff, they now outsource most writing and graphics work.

This position is even greater, I get to work from my home office anytime I feel like it.

"It's a sign Linux is hurting. Gateway dropped them. Look for MS to assimilate soon (flame suit firmly in place!)"

Not even close. It's catching on like wildfire, actually. It'll be a while before it really catches on for the home PC user (if every, really), but that's not the target marget anyway. Linux is an Open Source version of UNIX, pure and simple, and it is an excellent operating system.

About 3 days. UPS or FedUp dropped it at the door.

I left a trail of bread crumbs for it to follow...

Really, my boss encouraged us to play with XP at home to learn about it. Of course, this is only allowed temporarily, since I don't own a real license. Temporary is a pretty relative term, though :)

LOL!

We're running 2000 Pro machines at work, along with a few XP Pro boxes. I've been trying to convince my boss to let me take home one or the other of the OS's to play with, but he's just not going for it.

I just got my materials by Fedex yesterday. Quite a lot of material. Can't wait to dig in to it. The tee shirt was a nice surprise.

No flame suit is needed. Knowledgeable Linux desktop users and/or network/system admins know that you don't know what you are talking about. Since we know that, why flame?

Really? What is the percentage of web servers running Apache on *nix/Solaris compared to web servers running IIS on Windows NT 4/5.0 (Win2K) Server and Advanced Server? Don't get it twisted.
