Don't ever ask for ketchup for your eggs down south. The waitress, she will kick your ass.

I have one thing to add to this...

Don't make fun of hush puppies. Shut up and eat them! They're damn good!

"Do you know why they don't sweeten their tea in Virginia?"

We sweeten our tea in southwest Virginia. I asked specifically for unsweetened tea the other day and got the sweet stuff. A lot of restaurants will bring sweet tea if they don't ask you for a preference.

Some people believe that because the south allowed slavery think that they were somehow bad guys. The north allowed slavery until 1820. They're not bad guys.

Some League of the South/Southern Independence Party types won't agree. Thankfully, they are only a minority. But for some people, saying that the rebels weren't the bad guys is only the first step on the way to making the union or the Yankees the bad guys.

Some sour people in the northeast wish the south weren't even in the US, that's how bigoted they are.

That's much more of a class or elite or ideological thing. I doubt you'd hear much talk of that apart from liberal activists and Democrat contributors There are plenty of country music or NASCAR fans in the Northeast. A lot of them even identify more with the South than with their own part of the country.

"The north allowed slavery until 1820" - RJ

Ummm - categorically false.

Slavery was legal in the Union during the war and well after it.

The EP declared freedom for slaves in some areas of the South, but not all. I recommend you read the actual text. It is enlightening to many.

Regards,

Actually, in Appalichia Kentucky we say POP. However that's not the reason I'm posting. I have a semi serious question. Here it is: Do friends and family look at you funny when you mention peanuts in your bottle of coke or pepsi?

My wife thinks I'm nuts (pun intended), she's a Hoosier and never heard of such a thing. It seems that if you're from above the Mason-Dixon you've never heard, seen or done peanuts in your pop.

Just wondering what the southern freepers had to say on this matter. Ciao, Tim

We had "hush puppies" and "fritters" Saturday night, complete with powdered sugar. Friday we ate in a little hole-in-the-wall restaurant, had a stranger come over and sit with us and pass an hour away with a new friend.

18. Florida is not considered a southern state. There are far more Yankees than Southerners living there.

You bet it is, 'cept for the that 6th burrogh called Miami!

Yep. Up north when someone you don't know comes over to your table its to beg a dollar to buy a beer, he's reekin' of urine-soaked clothes, he's cross-eyed, and probably released from some mental facility. An' up north, they ain't go no hush puppies, 'cept on day feet...them yankess is weird!

FYI, the north still had slaves a YEAR after Richmond fell.

GEN U.S. Grant held HIS slaves until 1866 (june 10th,if i remember correctly!). damnyankees are nothing if not the world's greatest hypocrytes!

TWBTS was about just ONE main cause = FREEDOM for dixie.
