Well the A Concert For NYC DVD has now been released.
I still have not seen a copy but the reports are that this 2 disc DVD set reflects the changes made in the Viacom VH-1 / Viacom CBS rebroadcast of the concert.
These include replacing the audio of firefighters booing Hillary with cheers and the removal of a statement by Mike Moran of the NYFD that Osama bin Laden can "kiss my royal Irish ass".
Boos for Richard Gere have supposedly been left to stand.
Here are some related links:

A new USENET thread has started on alt.video.dvd about the DVD that was released yesterday. This thread can be located by searching for the post "A Concert For NYC" by WJM 01/29/02 08:24PM - So far a few posters have already started to let their voices be heard just why this revisionist take on the event is wrong and should be thrown back at the studios.
I am not registered with IMDB(internet movie data base) or any of a number of online retailers or movie review sites that allow users to post reviews of videos, but there is ample opportunity to inform buyers that the DVD product is revisionist history.
The Internet Movie DataBase A Concert For New York City (user comments)
Since Amazon and BarnesAndNoble are commercial sites, I will refrain from posting a direct link for these.
Feel free to discuss where you have raised awareness if you want.
Enough disgust could change things (a new release), if not, at least the buyer would be an informed consumer.
According to the first review on Amazon, the Hildebeast was booed. The reviewer wrote:
"Adam Sandler was hysterical, while Hillary Clinton got booed off the stage (what were they thinking when they put her in front of that crowd!)."What indeed?!!
:
Keep in mind they look over the reviews before they post them...or at least they say they do.
I've had reviews that were calm and collected, praising certain books, and they never showed up.
Time to make a presence again.
Anyone thing accomplished by DVD geeks: Almost immediate reissue of Willy Wonka letterboxed (the original DVD release was pan&scan even though there was a fair amount of supplemental materials that would interest an adult).
Just raise public awareness and let the studio get swamped with requests by the masses.
Some comments along the line, it's not so bad, go away (republican)...
No real response to the fact that the change was made.
This from anal rententive geeks who get bent out of shape over all sorts of things about DVD.
Maybe if they'd unplug their entertainment systems (stoppped going to the circus maximus), they'd realize what's going on in the real world.
Does anyone have an Internet Movie DataBase account (IMDB is owned by Amazon)?
These accounts are free an allow the user to identify "alternate versions" of videos and review the DVD content as well as the program itself.
I stumbled onto some other thread that "stinky" had joined sometime back (maybe in the last month). He doesn't seem to carry much weight (he may even reside in a number of peoples' killfiles).
As there is too much traffic in that group for me to real it all, I generally don't know the names in that usenet group.
Anyone find any other DVD reviews that mention the changed audio?
That's the thread I hit....
Stinky called me a dork. : )
