February 4, 2002 -- Some of the terror thugs being held at Camp X-Ray are having regrets about their actions, a Muslim Navy cleric said yesterday.

Lt. Abuhena Saiful-Islam, who meets daily with the 158 detainees at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, said that while many continue to maintain their innocence, others are having second thoughts.

Doctors at the Naval fleet hospital said yesterday they were treating two of the detainees for mental disorders - one was being medicated for post-traumatic stress disorder and another for manic depression.

WHAT??????? WHAT????????????? WHAT????????????? DO NOT TELL ME THIS. We are NOT treating these FRICKING TERRORISTS for "DEPRESSION."

Of course, this could also mean that the patient has been admitted to a private ward for 'special treatment', if you catch my drift.

Must be sensitive to their feelings. Wouldn't want them to feel depressed about their criminal behavior.

Why, I'm shocked......shocked, I tell you, at your obvious insensitivity. These poor souls are merely deluded and have been hauled to the other side of the planet in captivity. They do not get to enjoy their usual pasttime of tossing around headless goats from horseback or shooting women in the head who actually "read". You must feel their pain, put yourself into their position, and then reach down and ask yourself.........

"Could I................would I ever..............eat Fruit Loops???"

I would like to coddle them too. Take them up as high as the twin towers, give them a choice between jumping or burning to death, and assure them as they make that choice that we will also hunt down their families and coddle them in the same manner. We must never ever forget, or forgive, what these trash did to us ever until they are all burning in hell, and not even then.

Except for letting the press in and releasing photos that were open to interpretation, I think the US is doing the exact right thing with these detainees. The "coddling" is having its effect. Please note: "Some of the younger ones in particular are loosening up in their interrogation," an officer said. "They're relating to the interpreters who speak their language and seem to be realizing we Americans are not as bad or scary as they thought we were."

This is the main reason they were brought to Gitmo, extended interrogation and deprogramming. Imagine their suprise when the infidels, the evil Americans, the minions of the great satan give them clean clothes, korans, a padre, medical care, orientation to mecca, decent food, etc. etc. This treatment totally upsets their belief system. They become completely disoriented, and more pliable.

The hard part is going to come down the road when their buddies start kidnapping people to force their release. In fact this has already begun.

Okay, fine. I have no problem with screwing with their heads. In fact, screwing with their heads is a noble cause. Which is PRECISELY why I have a problem with PSYCHOTHERAPY. No. Uh-unh. Not going for it.

I think it's outrageous we are not handling the detainees in a culturally appropriate manner that recognizes the social mores in their part of the world. Haul them out to a soccer stadium at halftime, and behead them!

I am really tired of hearing of how they feel.

I don't care how they feel.

I don't care that they are 'sorry'.

I don't care if they were misguided and have now discovered that Americans (Christians) are not so bad after all.

They are the enemy! Period!

Muslims are excellent liars, Arafat has proved that. I would not believe any of them if they were standing atop of a pile of their Koran and swore they were telling the truth.

Methinks the good Lieutenant is suffering a form of reverse Stockholm Syndrome. His allegiance to Islam blinds him to the atrocities performed by his charges at the behest of evil men. The Good Lord guarantees us little in this world but the ability to choose, and these animals have chosen. Let their decisions guide their fate.

It's getting kind of bumpy in here...will need Freepwheel drive with extra heavy shock-absorbers to get through this thread.

Look at it this way- the manic depressive guy is probably the one who bit the guard. It has to be depressing to eat a chewy bagel without teeth.

Be glad they're not giving them Viagra- it already looks like they are dealing with the limp wrists 'n gerbils fan club down there.

Well, I am not going to get into a discussion of psychotherapy, I don't think it works. The article says they are being "treated" for some disorders. I took this to mean that they were being given drugs. Sounds good to me.

"When they find out what happened, they know that it is Islamically wrong," he said. "The understanding is that they are not allowed to kill people who are innocent."

Asked if any of the detainees had regrets, he said only, "Some, they do."

If you listen carefully enough, you can still hear them screaming.

That one is probably the guy who needed post traumatic shock therapy. Scared so far out of his mind by a daisy cutter that he can no longer tell which end is which.

Ada however, will flip out over 'torture,' not that she/he/it was too concerned about drugging a six year old Cuban kid.

So..."not allowed to kill innocents"...here is the caveat...Americans are not "innocents". But lumped together as "the Great Satan". This cleric is simply "being used".

Manic-depression also known as bipolar affective disorder is not the same as "depression." With the former, behavior can become so manic as to be violently chaotic...certainly one could not effectively interrogate a person in such a state.

On the other hand, severe depression can lead to serious physical disorders and may be even life threatening. It's difficult to interrogate someone who is so depressed they can't think straight or so sick they're on the verge of death.
