ANNOUNCING...FREE REPUBLIC SECOND AMENDMENT TASK FORCE! (Now it's official!)
Free Republic Network ^

Posted on 02/07/2002 1:31:28 AM PST by Mercuria

MISSION STATEMENT OF
FREE REPUBLIC SECOND AMENDMENT TASK FORCE

In a modern world where people can be educated of events at a moment's notice, those committed to the cause of preserving our Constitutional rights have good reason to be concerned. Even with the convenience of instantaneous information and a wealth of resources available at the click of a button to those who wish to educate and be educated as to the truth, such wonders of today can be exploited by those who have a great and driven passion to persuade, and in some cases bully, the citizens of our nation to deprive themselves of their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Despite the fact that history presents our Founding Fathers as firmly behind the concept of an armed populace to keep society polite and government honest, there are in existence organizations and government officials who have waited for such a disaster such as occurred on September 11, 2001 in our nation to put forth blatantly skewed information about our Constitutional right of gun ownership in order to instill in American citizens the fear of freedom, with the help of a media that overwhelming supports gun control and who have no shame about using their access to millions to propagandize against our God-given right of self-protection.

Because of the overwhelming push to move our country towards civilian disarmament, it is necessary for those who support the Second Amendment to become more visible and active than ever before. To this end, the Free Republic Second Amendment Task Force was created.

Our mission:

1. Coordinate a team of activists to provide information and updates as to the strength - or weakness - of our Second Amendment freedoms throughout the nation.

2. Research statistics from both sides of the Second Amendment debate for analysis and comparison.

3. Provide education as to the unique power the Second Amendment gives the citizens of America versus government control.

4. Take action to display to the public and our government officials our knowledge of our Constitutional right of self preservation and our willingness to defend this right (via communication campaigns, rallying, public debate, etc.).

Our long-term objectives:

1. Influence those in our government to reject gun control laws, and to restore those Second Amendment rights that have been un-Constitutionally and therefore illegitimately taken away from us.

2. Persuade Americans as to the wisdom of the Founding Fathers' recognition of our rights of self-preservation through the Second Amendment.

3. Expose the bias and lies of anti-Second Amendment organizations and other organizations that support them.

We at Free Republic Second Amendment Task Force hope to encourage many citizens who hold our right to keep and bear arms dear to join us in our mission, with a focus on teamwork and the preservation and restoration of our Second Amendment rights.

Time for America to do away with ALL laws that violate the 2nd amendment.

Text of the Second Amendment
"A well regulated Militia
being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

Anyone who actually reads AND understands the 2nd Amendment
will see that there is no constitutional authority for any type of gun registration
and *there is no need for anyone to have to apply for a license to carry a gun.
*NOTE Vermont is the only state that understands this!
Any political party, politician, judge (etc), organization or individual who trys to convince you that:
1) you must register a firearm
2) you must pass a background check
3) you must wait (x) amount of days before you can get your firearm
4) you need to have a license to carry a gun
is either uneducated about OUR rights as citizens
OR is actively working to undermine OUR country.

How Did the Founders Understand the Second Amendment?

How the Brady Bill Passed (and subsequently - "Instant Check")
When the Brady Bill was passed into law on November 24, 1993,
the Senate voted on the Conference Report
and passed the Brady Bill by UNANIMOUS CONSENT.

NOT ONE SENATOR FROM EITHER PARTY VOTED AGAINST THIS

Yet another 2nd Amendment group? I really don't see the benefit of dividing efforts when we have the TRT.

The Network is a place to coordinate the efforts of all the 2A groups and for people who are interested in working to protect the 2A to find others who are laboring in the cause. Most of us who are working to protect the 2A are members of several groups.

Some groups lobby and politic. Some groups educate. Some groups do a combination of these things. The beauty of joining and working in multiple groups is the multiplying effect of your membership.

The anti-civil rights forces have done this for years. They count the membership of all their groups like there was no overlap. In fact, most members of radical anti-civil rights groups like HCA (or whatever they are calling themselves today) are also members of other extremist anti- civil rights groups like the VPC. More than 90% of SUSSA's members are members of at least two other groups including the TRT.

No single group can do everything. I've never heard a leader of a pro-Second Amendment group say there are too many groups. They welcome the help, and in my experience, have been very encouraging to new groups.

I foresee the Task Force becoming a central point for people to gather information, find 2A groups that are doing work they want to get involved in, and a place for ALL 2A groups to let Freepers know what they are working on at the moment. I would like to see every pro-Second Amendment group from the NRA on down involved in the Task Force so we can increase our effectiveness and not duplicate efforts. We need to take a page from the anti-civil rights extremists. There is a multiplying effect that comes from multiple groups coordinating their efforts that can never be matched by just one group.

Bump for the 2A. And a hearty YAHOOO! for this task force. The 2A is a mighty idea to rally around, and FR is the place to do it. If you're a gun owner, shooter, hunter, or just a Constitutionalist, this is YOUR organization. Pitch in and lend a hand!

Hi there, 2T!!

Well, ya know, it's not like we haven't been acting as a task force already...just trying to create a network where pro-2A FReepers can act as a group, bringing their varied experiences to the table as we all attempt to turn us into the best 2A activism coalition we can be!

FReepmail me with e-mail information if you want to join up!

Always good to see you, glc, how are you doing these days?

1) I know women who support the 2nd Amendment who've actually had guns put to their heads and had been violenced upon in the worst conceivable ways. They are most courageous when it comes to appearing before councils, town hall meetings, and also the media, and they tell of those experiences. And they well understand that owning a firearm very well ensures a woman against being victimized in such a fashion a second time.

2) Hmmmmm!!

I hope you will permit this particular Task Force to use information from your website pertinent to our mission?
