Former President Clinton Suggests Modern-Day Marshall Plan Would Aid Anti-TerrorismWOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton suggested Friday that a modern-day "Marshall Plan" program that increases U.S. foreign aid would help stem the threat of global terrorism.
In a speech before several hundred Long Island business leaders, Clinton said that "for less than 20 percent of the proposed increases ... we could double our effort to build a world with more partners." He said advances in transportation and technology have made the world increasingly interdependent, and vulnerable. "That's really what Sept. 11 is all about," Clinton said. "It's the dark side of a completely interdependent world. And I want to argue that in such a world, a part of our strategy should be to have more partners and fewer terrorists." Clinton also said his administration tried hard to combat terrorism. He said a "standing contract" between the CIA and groups in Afghanistan would have authorized and paid them if they had succeeded in arresting or killing Osama bin Laden. "I always thought this guy was a big problem," he said. "I do not believe based on what options were available to me I could have done much more than I did." |
Clinton thinks he could be in charge of such a program and skim cash off the top. Aargh.
WHY are we afflicted with him still? I wish he would disappear.
;-)
The Marshall plan was done to repair the dammage and feed the starving people of Europe who were all but destoryed in world war II.
The problem going into 1946 was that nearly all the farm machinery, crops, food processing, factories, and transportation, had been destroyed in WWII by either the German's scortched earth policy or our attacks on German held property. Harry Truman and General George Marshall felt we had an obligation to try to feed, clothe and rebuild Europe.
There is no area of the world that has been destroyed by world war II type fighting. In WWII both sides killed as many civilians and destroyed as much civilian infastructure as possible. That is not now the case. We now attack only military targets.
If it is Clinton's idea to buy our safety by bribing the Muslim militants I might remind him that is exactly what we did in Kosovo by backing the Militant Muslim Albanians against Milosevic. Clinton was all over the Russians for taking on the Militant Muslims in Checknya.
When you try to appease Militant muslims you get your Pentagon blown up, and your WTC destroyed.
To make your nation safe you blow the crap out of any nation or people who look like your enemy. The end result of that is no one anywhere wants to be your enemy.
Clinton has done way too much stuff that makes his nose red.
I believe President Bush IS going to blow the crap out of anyone who looks like an enemy.
As Martha says, "It's a good thing."
Besides, no amount of USD$$$ thrown at Abdullah will make him hate us less. Fifteen of nineteen on 9/11 were middle class, educated Saudis. They don't need, couldn't use our $$$. How many Benz' can you drive at one time?
Eff off.
Sincerely, theDentist
"I truly fully believe that the root cause of terrorism does come from situations where there is poverty, where there is ignorance, where people see no hope in their lives and we understand that."
Of course, this is absurd. What should we do, give money to young, rich Saudi males? Gore, others are now harping this line. It seems to have started from the World Economic Forum in New York earlier this month. What's it about? Globalism. At least the part of Globalism that deals with making transfers of wealth and investments overseas easier, and us, the taxpayers, insuring the losses. The big hit to our pockets will come from "debt relief." "Debt relief" doesn't mean the banks forgive their all or part of their bad loans oversease. It means us the taxpayers subsidizing their losses.
The Globalist party line is hijacking the terrorism discourse. It is inconvenient to focus on real issues of religions, psychopathy, and education in the sense of what is actually taught in madrassas, etc. Terrorism is a specific tactic. The Globalists don't care. They see an opportunity to push their self-centered agenda with verisimilitude and pleas to guilt.
Indeed, this discourse will not help fight terrorism, but actually explain it away. It might also give "the poor" the idea that terrorism is their right, and a lucrative action. The Globalists don't care.
The idea and slogans were probably thought up in some pricey New York P.R. firm. I don't know if it will take hold. I don't know if all the espousers understand the fallacies of their argument, but they merely adopt it because it appeals to their sense of guilt and lefty "responsibility" discourse. I thought the "root causes" garbage died out last October. But the Globalists have adopted it. I don't know if it will fly. But it is dangerous, and its aims expensive to us. It will have a very willing "amen corner" with lefty media types. If the Wall Street Journal prints any article or opinion piece claiming that poverty is the root cause of terrorism, or tries to couple it to foreign investments in some fashion - watch out!
I think the only thing to do to fight it is to point out the money motive behind this at every opportunity.
Any news agency which provides him with a forum should be shunned.
Isn't it bad enough we have to pay our tax dollars to keep him and his sort-of-spouse fat and happy?
If not, it will just line the pockets of the despots.
NaW.
(Of course, like everything he says, he doesn't really mean it...)
You have got to be kidding, if this is what our country is reduced to...God help us.
Now that Clinton's moving towards King of the U.N., we American citizens have to wake up to the fact that there are PLENTY enough people left in the world to lie to.
Isn't Bubba dangerously close to affecting policy? He needs a slap on the wrist or a W-4 inquiry.
