TOKYO, Feb 18, 2002 (Kyodo via COMTEX) -- About 100 protesters, including two members of the Japanese parliament, held a rally Tuesday outside one of the Diet office buildings to protest U.S. President George W. Bush's speech. Two Social Democratic Party lawmakers Mizuho Fukushima and Tomoko Nakagawa joined the rally attended by members of civil groups outside the office building for House of Councillors members.
Fukushima, an upper house member, said at the rally, "The president's 'axis of evil' remark runs counter to Japan's peace-upholding Constitution. It's problematic that the Japanese government has not protested."
"We will watch how the president's speech affects Japan and the world," she added.
Fukushima, Nakagawa, a member of the House of Representatives, and other protesters shouted, "We are against war cooperation," "America should get out of Afghanistan," and other slogans at the start of Bush's speech in the upper house chamber.

Written by Douglas MacArthur. He thought it was a good idea for Japan to have a "peace-upholding" constitution.
Foreigners who hate America and what it stands for, freedom. Wow, this is a shock. You'd think from the protests that these people want less freedom and more totalitarianism. Bring back the Emporer's clothes!!
What? Is he touting Atkins and they're backing The Zone?
I think I have become addicted to the table format for my posts, somebody stop me!!
Your envious!! (Its just a phase)
First Fukushima says he thinks Japan should stick with the pacifism because of its constitution. That's fine- if they want to remain pacifistic even if it ultimately costs them their country. But the chants of the protesters betray their real concerns, and it has nothing to do with their constitution. They weren't shouting only about Japan's joining with the coalition- they were shouting for the US to get out of Afghanistan. What does the US presence have to do with the Japanese constitutional prohibition against Japanese military use for non-defensive purposes? (Though technically, since their people were killed in the WTC too, their actions as part of the coalition would be defensive, to prevent further attacks after being attacked.)
Why, the US presence has nothing to do with Japan's constitution, of course. Japan could simply stay out. But the US presence in Afghanistan bothers Fukushima more than even the Japanese presence in the Indian Ocean as refueling vessels. Why is that? Well, simple, I suppose. Fukushima is a socialist, sympathizing more with the terrorists' than with the US. As they say, Fukushima, Fukushima.
Oh no!!! It's catching!
But it is even cooler with nifty font features
(Or is it the ENOLA PERSON EXERCISING THEIR RIGHT TO LIVE AN ALTERNATIVE LIFESTYLE?)
What's problematic is the International Democartic Socialist Party. These guys are anti-American and are hell bent on overthrowing our type of government. Moore, who expressed this so well the other day, should be jailed for treasonous rhetoric. And what about the Progressive Caucus. If those guys aren't socialists I'll eat my hat. They outta deport all these jerks.
