HOWARDS TURN-Catholic League Promising Full Scale Boycott of Proposed CBS/Howard Stern Late Show
New York Post ^ | March 7, 2002 | Richard Johnson

Posted on 03/07/2002 7:51:58 AM PST by codebreaker

If there's anything to reports that CBS might replace David Letterman with Howard Stern if Letterman jumps to ABC, Stern's critics will be ready with a full-scale boycott.

The (self syled-ed.) King of All Media-whose radio show propelled Mel Karmazin into the vice chairmanship of Viacom/CBS-has often boasted he could dominate late night TV.

But Catholic League president William Donohue thunders, "CBS is out of its mind if it thinks it can get away with moving Howard Stern into the Letterman slot without a fight."

Donohue who plans to target one advertiser at a time, said, "No one in the entertainment business has angered more Americans than Howard Stern."

Donohue's got a job, and he's doing excellent work. Don't know why you've got a bee in your bonnet over the Catholic League, but I'll bet it stems from problems with the Church.

Ditto on John Galt for his two cents. The Catholic League has no need to "clean up" their own house--and I presume you mean the Church--before taking on that Catholic-bashing, Christophobic worm, Howard Stern. The Catholic League's mission is to criticize those who attack Catholic beliefs and the Church. That's plenty.

Bump for the Catholic League, doing God's work in defending His Church here in America.

Oh, for you Rome-Is-The-Whore-of-Babylon nutcases, here's your cue: Fire away.

It's comments like that that fuel the fire of the Democratic Party demagogues and turn many voters off to conservative candidates, because the 'Rats make a connection between conservatives in general and censorship-happy nitwits like Donohue.

Go ahead, Mr. Donohue, advance your puritanical, holier-than-thou, and hypocritical (considering the pedophila allegations against many Catholic clergy) agenda. Tell Stern's viewers and advertisers that they're going straight to hell if they patronize an entertainer who's exercising his 1st Amendment rights. And then see how many leftist, anti-Catholic Democrats that your agenda helps get elected, because your goddamned puritanism scares voters away from conservatives.

You’ll never make a living as a gambler.

I have no problem with the Church, dope. I’m Catholic.

I just hate busybodies like Donohue. Really, the guy can’t find a better use for his time than battling against a television show that doesn’t exist?

Agreed. She's no better then all of those guys, feeding off people's problems, and making her audience feel better by putting them down, all cloaked in a false sense of "care" for the person.

She makes me sick. But I don't deny her her right to do it; when I start doing that, I might as well start supporting CFR.

codebreaker, I'm addressing this to you because it's your thread...but it's really addressed to all the folks who have decided to rail against Mr. Donovan and the Catholic League, and especially those who claim to be "Catholic."

For years, the entertainment industry, liberal educators, self-serving politicians, and their supporters have been "dumbing-down" the populace, insulting religious beliefs, and generally leading us further into the sewer!

Evidently, some of you believe this is justified because to complain against such obvious attacks would be "judgmental" behavior (or worse, infringes on the "rights" of the perpetrator). I suspect many of you think "someone" will step up to the plate to correct the problem...and, "by gosh when they do, they'll get my vote!" Oh, "but if they challenge me to think about my own participation in this moral slide to decay...I'll just sit here on my computer and trash them!"

..."I'm an adult! I expect to be treated like one! I can handle Howard Sterns despicable ranting...It doesn't matter to me! I'll just choose not to watch!" To all of you who think in such terms; Let me be clear:
You are moral cowards who are even more despicable than Howard Stern! You see a person (Stern) who is through his disgusting presentations is tearing down your very core beliefs, your faith, and your family...and you do NOTHING but "label as freaks" the very people and organizations that are trying to put a stop to the real problems associated with a declining moral standard!

Mr. Donohue and the Catholic League have stepped up to the plate! Thank God they have! They are involved in an endless struggle to overcome the corruption people like you allow to happen!

You all can go back now to ignoring the problems; Changing the subject by blaming "Cardinal Law" for every problem in the universe; And defending Howard Stern's right to fill your minds with garbage, while hiding from the idea that you have a responsibility, and duty, as an "equal citizen" under the law to register a protest against the corruption!
...Because, I'm sure someone you "approve of" will eventually take care of the problem so you don't have to bother about getting involved right now.

We've got to stop these 'cheerleaders' for the loony liberals!

"It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate,
tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds."

- Samuel Adams

For the lukewarm … the message to the church of the Laodiceans (Laodicea means “rule of the people”) the final church in the book of Revelation . [Rev 3:14-22]

“And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;

church of the Laodiceans I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou were cold or hot

So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth

Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'--and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked--

I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches”.

Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to send another donation to the Catholic League. God bless William Donohue.

I think the Catholic League needs to get off its high horse and pull the anal beads out of its rear. If CBS wants to put that junk on the air great, we/they do not need to watch it. But it will fail because the only people who will watch it are, hopefully, lazy people without jobs, or teenagers.

Puritanical and holier-than-thou? Well, maybe.
But your conclusion that Donohue is a hypocrite because of some bad clergy is totally unfair. Those clergy may be guilty of hypocrisy, but what does that have to do with Donohue? How does their bad behavior make him a hypocrite? By your logic, unless every Catholic everywhere were perfect then anyone who defends the Catholic Church is a hypocrite. Do you demand perfection of every member of every group before you brand the group's defenders as hypocrites? Do you apply the same heavy hand to the Boy Scouts? GOP? Masons?

Very good grumpster. If these same folks took a non-judgemental view and applied this standard to the zoning laws in their neighborhoods and towns, then randomly sited billboards, trailerparks, as well as mixed-use zoning with businesses next to residencies, cars on cement blocks, etc., would be the rule of thumb everywhere you might look--not to mention stripper bars and porn shops sandwiched between churches and the schools, with the accompanying vagrants associated with such lack of zoning.

Standards applied mean quality upheld, in everything and everywhere. Maybe those folks all DO live in trailerparks and just don't know any better (bet, though, their the same folks who squawk when some newbie doesn't follow formatting standards). Thank God William Donohue does. V's wife.

Looking at JohnGalt's profile, his life was changed forever by reading Atlas Shrugged, and How I Found freedom in an Unfree World and one other book. It didn't take much and presumably his life was not changed for the better by being so impressed with objectivist claptrap and mind-candy for the self-absorbed.

Dr. Laura's show failed because she's a judgemental, hypocritical, old witch, not because of the gays.

I don't really care for how she handles her callers. But, you called her hypocritical. Why do you say this?
