Policy Think Tank Calls for End to "Virtual News Blackout" On UN Taxation Conference Next Week

Decrying the "virtual news blackout" on next week's UN conference to impose global taxes, Tom DeWeese, president of the American Policy Center, a think tank, has written to President Bush, urging him to resist all such plans.

A United Nations conference this month will ask world leaders, including President Bush, to consider global taxes to finance increased foreign aid spending.

The March 18-22 International Conference on Financing for Development in Monterrey, Mexico, is organized by the U.N. with the participation of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization.

"There has been a virtual news blackout concerning the boldest, most dangerous scheme to deprive the United States and all other nations of their sovereign rights, to take over the entire world's financial systems, to tax all energy sources, air transportation, and other aspects of the lives of the world's population," says DeWeese.

"This would be the foundation of a global government run by the United Nations", warns DeWeese. "With trillions of dollars in taxes, the UN will be free to ignore all nations, including the United States of America. The United States fought a Revolution to resist taxation without representation and the UNs plans will deal a death blow to our nation."

In a letter to President Bush, DeWeese says, "As the International Conference on Financing for Development meets in Monterrey, Mexico, (March 18-21) you will come under great pressure to support United Nations' schemes for global taxation. You are urged to vigorously resist them and condemn any plans for global taxation."

"You must soundly reject these proposals and instead promote successful American ideals that will allow other nations to build their own economic success," said DeWeese in his letter to the President.

"Rather than following American principles of private enterprise, private property rights and limited government to successfully achieve these goals, the UN proposals seek only to loot America's wealth in a Robin Hood-style theft; robbing from the rich to give to the poor."

DeWeese quoted UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's clearly announced intentions with regard to global taxation. In a report entitled Existing Proposals for Innovative Sources of Finance, "Annan outlined plans for global taxes on, among other things, international currency transactions, air line transportation, the internet, energy and natural resources."

"The United Nations has no claim to these sources of revenue; rather they are the products of private individuals, private companies or sovereign nations. Only sovereign governments have the power to tax," said DeWeese. "The United Nations seeks to become a global government."

"Mr. President, you must not allow the UN to collect a single dollar of global taxes. For once begun, there will be no way to ever stop it. The United States is the most powerful force on earth. If our nation opposes these global tax schemes, then they will not become reality."

It doesn't look like the UN and the political leaders of the US are planning to part ways any time soon.

US Ambassador to the UN Negroponte's address to Congress March 14, 2002. Make sure you read the links, too. Lot's of good stuff included.

And if you know anyone who thinks the UN is reforming like www.cunr.org says, they may be in for a surprise. But then again, anybody who really believes the UN is being reformed is probably surprised every morning when they open their eyes.

I'm with The Kid. I'm not sure Dubya can even say "cojones."

I am as well.
"cojones"? Dubya can say it. He just doesn't look down when he does.

It was recently pointed out, that by targetting currency exchange as a source of taxable income for the UN, every purchase made by someone in the US, of a product made in a foriegn country, and vice-versa, will be subject to this tax. The tax will be,using a UN term, 'transparent'.

Ah, Globalism. Ah, NAFTA. Ah, Spheres of influence. They beginning to sound like building blocks for Mr. Big, yet?

I'll link to this... if the media does not like a story, they just don't talk about it- so the average person hasn't a clue.

"who pays the UN costs to overthrow the American way of life with your tax dollars."

The very FIRST order of business for Congress last year, while Republicans still had the majority in the Senate,
was to authorize back payments to the UN.
8 years of klintoon to clean up and this was their 1st priority.

And don't they have to go through Congress to see to it we pay taxes on a worldwide basis? Maybe he is going to let them know this is a dumb idea.

All you lovers of Saint George take note: he's about to sell out the U.S. again. I'll take bets on his supporting a worldwide taxing authority

Wouldn't take that bet if you gave me 10 to 1 odds.

Actually, Bush should be told not to go to the conference at all. Everyone knows once he's there he will not tell them off, as he should.

In addition, him going in person legitimizes the whole nasty business and shows he consideres it even worth debate. Appearances mean a lot in politics and this looks bad for us. Hang on to your wallets folks.

The media likes the story just fine. In fact most of them are drooling at the prospect. They don't talk about things they consider too deep for us fly-over people or things they worry might needlessly stir up the natives or things they would rather we not hear about. It's a bit like communism, those who decide have the power.

I think he knows that if he were to do that, people would scream treason and impeachment. It does make one nervous that he has consistantly refused to give his position on it.

With probably 95% of the population completely oblivious to the fact this is even happeneing, let alone the potential consequences and inherent symbolism, who do you think is going to scream? There is a reason he hasn't come out against it...he's either for it or he's on the fence and plans on signing on anyway.

--it's when you take it all into account, all the various ways the UN is affecting people, and what they got planned. People have been laughing at it, calling it no big deal every step of the way, but now they actually have some serious control of US people, and they really have a lot of control over how the kids get raised and taught. To a lot of folks it's too subtle to pick up on, because there's hardly ever any news on it.

I'm thinking there might finally be action once the tax is in place, and if that don't do it it will be the attempt to regulate and tax private well water usage.

You still seem to think anyone in DC gives the slightest damn about the Constitution. Bush could have let them know it was a dumb idea in a letter or with an envoy. His personal presence legitimizes the whole thing and he knows it.

He said no new taxes. 'Over my dead body'. He just raised foreign "aid". I really don't believe he will approve this. We'll see.

The inaction of our Congress will decide the results,. This is the State Departments views. Maybe you should ask Bush why he has a Communist in that seat.

"With respect to U.S. policy, when it comes to our role as a member of the Security Council [of the United Nations] we obviously are bound by UN resolutions." - Colin Powell, Secretary of State
