Yep; that's what people kept telling us as we shivered. I still love it there despite the cold (and the liberals). :)

How true, and we have the ice queen herself as our U.S. Senator to prove it.

Northeast Florida is really the best

If I could get a good job in St Augustine, that would be a great spot to go to....and I can get out of East Lansing, whose police do not know how to investigate accidents(I was rear ended, and it was ruled my fault), and Judges(David Jordon) don't know how to make rulings in accident cases(I fought and lost)....

Great place, great people, the only economy out of 50 states that grew in the last 4 months of 2001. You gotta have faith, sell out up there and MOVE, you will be welcomed, there are jobs, cost of living and taxes are lower, you can be outdoors more, but the cars will rust just as bad here as in Michigan, due to salt, unless you are inland a ways.

There's an oceanfront in Texas? Oh, you must be referring to the Ocean of Mexico.

"If they aren't kooks, that is."

LOL. I've never seen a family that didn't possess a healthy portion of kooks. That's what makes family. I wouldn't trade my goofy cousins for all the silverware on Long Island.

Move to the lowest taxed state (I think it's tennessee). Or to the state closest to seceding from the Union and ditching socialism.

RIght where we are is good for us. Rural Oregon Coast. Fifteen minutes away from town. Economically indep. and far away from great neighbors.

Idaho can't be very conservative. Look at their state income tax rate:

$0 to $2,000 - 1.9%

Next 2,000 - 3.9%

Next 2,000 - 4.4%

Next 2,000 - 5.4%

Next 2,000 - 6.4%

Next 5,000 - 7.4%

Next 25,000 - 7.7%

Over 40,000 - 8.1%

Now compare Idaho's state income tax rates to those in Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Wyoming, Nevada, Washington, and New Hampshire.

Come on over to the coast where all the conservatives live quietly amongst the coast range.

North to Alaska...

Yes it gets cold in the winter, but you can always put more clothes on to get warmer. There is only so much you can take off when your hot, and then you are still hot. (grin)

Hey our largest city has less than 400,000 people, smaller than most suburbs in the lower 48. Little or no taxes, depending on where you live. The absolute best hunting and fishing in the world. For instance, last August I was out fishing with the boys near Valdez. First lure hit the water at 7:32, and we had 42 silver salmon (8-17 lbs each) on board before 8:15. Man that's fun.

Besides, and this is very important. We have the very last pristine coastline left in the United States. But you may want to come up quick to see it, because there are a few of us that want to start punching holes in that ever so fragile tundra, scarring it unrepairably for centuries to come.

To quote our State poet:

"Its not the land, have you seen it? Its the cussedest land that I know. Yet there are some who would never trade it....

Way too many people in Alaska. Land can't support more and without a larger economy will not support more.

Wish they would have closed the border day after I got here; but now I'm here ain't nobody runnin me out.

Luray? Seems like I heard about that town before! You have to be careful not to stumble into a cavern and trip over a dead body.

A thought worth pondering.

We really shouldn't forget Brightmore. What a lovely town that is and just think, you will never spend wasted time scrounging for a dirty needle.

You should begin by looking for a state. In a state made up with people of your political views you have a chance to maintain your culture. Less so with a city. The Upper Rocky Mountain region comes to mind. Western Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah (single religion) to name some. People that make up FreeRepublic should consider such a move before all states are run by Dems.

It sure as he** wouldn't be Payson, AZ. Too darn many California types there already. Ya know, they come into town, bitch about just how bad LA is and then try to make Payson look, act, sound, smell, and rot...just like LA. You might try Sedona, AZ, Madison, WI, Boulder, CO or Wash, DC.

Just kidding (read: venting,) but the influx of Caulifornites into the town is disturbing. Payson is great but any number of small western towns are nice. I also like Albuquerqurequey. He** you know what I mean.
