Course On African-American Men Offered At Temple
by KYW's Karin Phillips
For the first time, Temple University is offering a special course that examines the Black man in America.
Instructor Ed Coleman says his course, The Black Man, is designed to look beyond all of the grim statistics and media stereotypes and get students to critically examine the roots and characteristics of the modern African American man.
According to Coleman, the black man's baggage has its roots in slavery, when the role of manhood was subverted from provider to survivor and sexual tool. "Where African American men or African men had been forced to be breeders and studs and that became the prevalent notion of what it meant to be a man where the emphasis was placed on the individual rather than the family or the community."
The class, which is in Temple's African American studies department, covers education, spirituality, health and criminal justice issues and relationships.
To paraphrase he said that when you see 3 black men on the corner, approach it from the viewpoint that they do so because theyve been denied the chance to do anything else in society and that this is actually a from of abuse.

It can emphasize things like responsibility, literacy, holding a job, being decent...and de-emphasize Jesse Jacksonian thoughts such as, "I am born - therefore I am owed".
Full Disclosure: At this time, I'm on the final legs of a 6 week glue-sniffing binge, so my thoughts my seem a little "out of touch".
Nevermind...
Sounds like junk social-science, but considering its another left wing whacko African-American studies course, you can't really be suprised.
Gosh, I'll bet this class is a great place to meet dumb white chicks. |
African-American men should study manhood in Africa; African-African men still are enslaving other African-African men, women and children as slavery has always been a function of life in Africa.
Also, African-American "freedmen" (blacks who for various reasons were set free by their owners) were slave owners of other African-Americans prior to emancipation in 1865.
The impact of Blacks owning other Blacks ( which African-Americans don't comprehend) will hopefully be included and be an important part of the good professors course!!!
-- LOL! True!!
I wonder what a realistic course along these lines would include. Malt liquor? Violent crime? Bad music? Abysmal English? Walking like a chicken? It seems like a right-thinking student could have a lot of fun in a course like this.
-- That is if he doesn't mind if he fails the class.
ROFLMAO!!!

Ignorant comments like this only underscore the need for such a course.
I thought only us Southerners were supose to have racist sterio types like that. There may be hope for you yankees after all.
Thanks- I just couldn't let that one get by. It's one of the impediments to decent race relations.

And a Blessed Easter to you too.
Honest to God, about a week ago a thirteen year old white girl at school came over to the van, which I was driving to pick up our boys from the home, and looked over the boys. She told them that she went only with black dudes.
This is the same girl that wrote a letter to a Sudanese boy at the home, calling him sexy man and telling him that she wanted him to do a threesome with her and her Native American friend.
But many young white girls are looking for black dudes now. I see it all the time here.
