I'm perplexed by the whole land thing. We start with the Balfour Declaration in 1916, but about 1922, Churchill splits of Trans-Jordan in some sort of quid-pro-quo to the Hashemites. If the West Bank and Gaza become parts of a sovereign nation, Israel is further reduced. There won't be much left.

I wonder if it will cause a split among catholics if it continues? Will there be a Left/Right split?

Even as we speak, Arab muslim terrorists are firing from the Church of the Holy Sepulchcre, having taken nuns and priests hostage, in order to carry out their depredations.

Sex offending priest are humiliating the Vatican.

"John Paul II, unlike George W. Bush, has met with Arafat on numerous occasions and has some affinity for the Palestinians." Sinkspur, I am curious: why do you think this is the case? Why would JPII have any affinity for a Marxist/Islamist mafia?
Many thanks.

No, I won't. As a world leader, his opinion is important, even if wrong or ill-considered. He'd do better just keeping his mouth shut or figuring out a way to address the pederast problem.Well, which is it? Do you want his opinion, "ill-considered" as it may be? Or do you want him to keep his mouth shut? Maybe it would be better if you kept your mouth shut. ;)

Your post #35. Yep, any excuse will do. Its been a dry spell for Catholic bashing since the mid-east started getting hot.

I wonder if it will cause a split among catholics if it continues? Will there be a Left/Right splitI think most Americans make the distinctions between religious beliefs and interpretations by liberal clergy of beliefs to the political arena.
LETS BE HONEST HERE, this is not just about the Catholic Church: outside of Baptists, Mormons, and other Evangelicals,,,,all religions are basically controlled by left leaning clergy.

Israel seems to be losing support in many quarters. Outside of the US, where does Israel have any support?

This will affect catholics around the world Not at all. The Vatican has lost all credibility concerning "unjust conditions and humiliations". Have you read the papers lately?

Sinkspur, I am curious: why do you think this is the case? Why would JPII have any affinity for a Marxist/Islamist mafia? Maybe because there are some number of Christians in Palestine? Other than that, I can't begin to guess.

As a Catholic, this statement from the Pope makes me ill. You just have to wonder if he is really the one writing them...

"Reuters wrote it to suit their own political leanings."
Absolutely. The spin emphasizes the criticism of Israel and minimizes the criticism of the Palestinian terrorists.
To: KirkandBurke
my, my, look at the venom coming from my 'catholic' brethren. Deriding probably one of the holiest popes we will ever see. So quick to jump up and stab him in the back while muttering about pedophile priests.
What a shame.
To: ltlflwr
I don't want his opinion, in this instance. It's embarrassing.
