Early Report from the Pro-Israel Rally in NYC

RaceBannon phoned in from the rally, which was moved to Dag Hammarskjold Park. It was just breaking up at about 12:15, although many people were still there and some of the speakers were still giving interviews. Race estimated 12,000 people.

Speakers were Congressman Engels, Senator Schumer, Andy Cuomo, Curtis Sliwa, Dove Hikind, Rabbi Golden, probably others.

By sheer coincidence, Race met up with newwahoo in the crowd.

The crowd was very polite, lots of families, psalms were sung in Hebrew, and even the booing was subdued---even when the New York Times was mentioned.

Next Sunday, the demonstration is said to be at 55th and Park at 10:30, where the PLO office is.

Yehuda, Race, and newwahoo I hope will correct any errors I've made here, or start a new thread.

WCBS-TV just gave a pretty favorable report on the pro-Israel demo, followed by a quick, equally favorable report on the anti-Israel demo. The reporter, Whitney Casey, gave the numbers for each demo: 12,000/1200. If she showed any bias, it was in saying that in the anti-Israel demo, "More than 1200 Moslems, Christians, and Jews joined against Israeli violence," without giving a simlar intro for the pro-Israel demo.

I was at the anti-Israel demo Friday night; there couldn't have been more than 400 people there. I'm glad I wasn't in the city today; my ever-present backpack (full of newspapers and books) would have ensured that I couldn't enter. I'm sure glad you were able to make it, Race.

Let them get mad at us for what we do to them, not what Israel does to them. That is my point.

They will get mad at us for whatever their leaders, their media, and their assorted communist pot-stirrers TELL them we are doing, whether or not we are actually doing it. That was my point. And like I said, that boat's already sailed.

They are not monolithic. That is the problem. Muslims do work with us. You catch ABC tonight? We don't want a video of Americans rallying in support of Israel run after what ABC showed happening in the West Bank. The countries which we are depending upon for support will have a harder time with their own people if Americans are shown cheering the IDF.

Two nights ago the Bahrain Gulf Daily News ran a very unsual article blasting the USA. It was posted on FR. The next day, mobs attacked our Embassy there. That is unheard of for Bahrain. We need that Naval base there, we need their air field for our heavy transports. We don't need to incite the locals who, up to now, have been very supportive of our war on terror.

If we want to turn this into a USA vrs Muslim conflict (which is really what it is in many ways) we should do it on our terms, when we want to do that, when we are ready, not have it force upon us because we link ourselves too closely to what Israel does to protect herself.

I saw mention of it on CNN on the ticker at the bottom of the screen. Saw mention of the demonstration in Paris against anit-semitism. Israel, our friend, ally and partners in the war on terror effort.

The speakers mentioned planning a rally in D.C. within the next two weeks. Everyone from the eastern seaboard should be there! Plenty of busses will be arranged.

Hmmm... the DC Chapter is planning The Patriots Rally for America in DC in two weeks - April 20th.

No, I am not surprised, at all. I have been frustrated with all media, except FOX, since BC became Pres. Before that, I cannot recall such one-sided reporting and trying to influence public opinion. One thing is different now, it is more a life and death matter considering our war against terrorism all over the world! Those of us who see what is happening in media to attempt to mold public opinion cannot be quiet. CNN's ratings show that we know what they are up to. We have to continue to shout it out!

Yehuda, I was centered between 1st and 2nd street, on the north side of the court, next to the barricade that the Cops set up to walk down the street. I was still in the court, and not in the street. I did see the KAHANE WAS RIGHT signs!

What I was pleased to see/feel, was the family atmosphere of this. At most Freeps, we have a lot of anger toward the issue we are Freeping for. Here, with every right to be angry, I did not detect any bad anger, but a righteous emotion. I cannot explain it, but when I went to Church tonight for the evening service, I told my Pastor where I was, we both laughed how I was with God's first family in the morning, and God's step children inthe evening today, but I also told him how I felt blessed to be there, to be among so many of God's chosen people, and even though I know we believe differently, I felt right at home cheering for Israel!
