"Band of Brothers" is coming back to HBO, starting Monday, April 8th. If you haven't seen this series, you really need to. It will give you a good view of what WWII/Europe was like. Much better than Saving Private Ryan. Looks like 9 Eastern/8 Central. They are playing Parts 1 and 2.
And a supporter of President Bush.
"The President's actions on behalf of our servicemen and women show his deep respect for all who wear the uniforms of our armed forces," Winters said. "President Bush has overseen a 21 percent increase in military pay since taking office and has ensured that our troops in the field have what they need to win the War on Terror. Funding for VA medical care has increased by over 40 percent during the President's term, facilitating the treatment of one million additional veterans. President Bush has been a great friend to the greatest generation."
It's a pity you don't have sons who would buy them for you, as mine did at Christmas, 2002. Along with a DVD player.
They are well worth going back to from time to time.
'Stand Alone'
Hanks and Spielberg both spoke at the dedication ceremony when the National D-Day Museum opened in New Orleans. The D-Day Museum had long been Stephen Ambrose's project, so he spoke at the dedication ceremony as well. That was not long after Saving Private Ryan - and at that time, Speilberg, Hanks and Ambrose announced the HBO miniseries project.
Some of the men who are portrayed in the miniseries were in the audience that day. When you watch Band of Brothers, you get the impression that the producers crafted each hour-long episode especially for those veterans, with serious attention to getting it right. No politics, just the story as told by the men who actually lived those experiences.

From pp 202-203: "Combat is a topsy-turvy world. Perfect strangers are ging to great lengths to kill you; if they succeed, far from being punished for taking life, they will be rewarded, honored, celebrated. In combat, men stay underground in daylight and do their work in the dark. Good health is a curse; trench foot, pneumonia, severe uncontrollable diarrhea, a broken leg are priceless gifts.
"There is a limit to how long a man can function effectively in this topsy-turvy world."
Same here. I could watch the reenactment of the assault on Brecourt Manor over and over and still be impressed.
I was honored enough to have one of them, Lester Hashey live not more than 2 minutes from my office. I called him the day I voted and I thanked him for serving our country allowing me the freedom to vote. He talked to me for half an hour and we made a time to get together after I returned from a trip. Unfortunately he passed away a short time later.
I attended his funeral and saw his wonderful pictures that his proud family showed. They were the originals, what an honor.
Total agreement. Fox News has been suffering in my house because of it!
Click on the D-Day Museum link up above; the museum has a retail shop that sells (among many other interesting videos), the Band of Brothers DVD set.
They charge maybe ten bucks more than Amazon.com would, but any profit they make is certainly put to good use. I bought my DVD set from the museum; it just seemed like a better place to spend my money than Wal-Mart.
