On a recent visit to my brother's house in Charlotte, NC, I saw the following on my sister-in-law's car:

My question is exactly what does the "Well-behaved women rarely make history" statement suppose to mean? Any opinions on this out there?

In case you had not guessed, my sister-in-law is a little on the liberal side...

She's jealous of Monica.
To: the_devils_advocate_666
BTW, does she always park here mini-van on such a steep grade?
To: the_devils_advocate_666
It means: "I can behave as poorly as I want and when someone calls me on it, I shall say it is my political statement."
To: the_devils_advocate_666; texaggie79; dead
It means that women that are not well-behaved make history more frequently.

See my #2.

I think she means for women to get ahead, make waves. Being a conformist doesn't get you anywhere or remebered. I guess she means be a Hillary.

Man, where is the "Love Your Mother" bumper sticker with the picture of the Earth?

I tend to agree with this. It is also true of men, by the way. History is made by those who aren't afraid to make waves. Women are singled out here because they are traditionally have been more encouraged to be "well-behaved" than men have.

All misbehavin' women do.

There is no way this is a womans vehicle...the bumpers aren't all smashed in.

I hope she's a nice wife to your brother!!!
When I see bumper stickers like that, I imagine the woman behind them probably orders her husband around like a servant.
To: FreeTally
She's also missing "HATE IS NOT A FAMILY VALUE".
To: otterpond
And Mother Teresa. Very well behaved, very loved, and she really made a difference.

The first example that comes to my mind is Jean d'Arc. Or the english version: Joan of Arc. She made history in a big way by misbehaving(as they saw it at the time) so badly, that they burned her alive to make an example.
But in this case, I think this bumper sticker is meant as a mean spirited criticism of the 1950's american style housewife steriotype. I don't care for the bumper sticker at all.
To: StockAyatollah
She's also missing "HATE IS NOT A FAMILY VALUE". LOL!!! Forgot that one.
And "PRACTICE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS AND SENSELESS BEAUTY"

Bumper Sticker seen in Topeka:

No, the picture was just taken at a 45-degree angle... that would be 45 degrees to the left.
To: the_devils_advocate_666

Women who follow the traditional roles of wife and mother (well-behaved) rarely are famous/found in the history books. Conversely, women who are in the history books rarely were happy in traditional roles of wife and mother only. They could be considered mis-behaved, since at the time, a wife's place was at home with her children, not in a political position or researching science or math, or writing professionally, or any other "manly" pursuit.
To: the_devils_advocate_666
Well-behaved or not, never ever put a woman in position of authority.

"A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle."

Missing:
"I Believe Anita"
"You can't hug your kids with Nuclear Arms"
which reminds me... if women ran the military, would missiles be shaped differently?

Apparently, you male oppressor you, you haven't seen the sticker that says BITCH - Babe In Total Control of Herself. (I don't have the heart to point out the inconsistency of capitalizing "in" but not "of.")

Here ya go: Women who put stupid bumper stickers on their cars never make history.
To: angcat
it means "whores" get noticed ..hehehe Monica, Hitlary, Donna Rice and numerous other bimbos whose name I have fortunately forgotten. The average wife, mother and homemaker is not likely to get even 15 minutes of fame or infamy, whichever.

I've observed that the majority of great people in history are not "well behaved", usually neglecting their own families in favor of their focus, and/or are addicts, abusive, lawbreakers, philanderers, or have some other seriously objectionable attribute.
Unfortunately, the bumper sticker in question encourages such atrocious behavior - without noting that only a minute fraction of such amoral people do in fact make history (and many of those the wrong kind). Ask the car's owner if she wants her daughter to take that advice to heart and become a drug-addled 'ho.
To: the_devils_advocate_666
I live in Charlotte - and also have a sister (in Reston, VA though) who may subscribe to the same theory. I saw her reading a popular book called "Bitch: In praise of the difficult Woman" - or something to that effect. The theory is, nice women get walked on - and bitches get what they want.
It may often be true - but what they fail to consider - is WHO they may be getting whatever from. Most self-respecting REAL men have had it with bitches - especially the new breed, leaving only wimps to service them.
To: FreeTally
Or my favorite "PRACTICE RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND WANTON DESTRUCTION"
To: StockAyatollah
One that I don't think we'll ever be seeing on her vehicle is "Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my gun".

Ask the car's owner if she wants her daughter to take that advice to heart and become a drug-addled 'ho. First, I don't think I'll be asking her that question. But it is interesting to note that she now has 3 daughters with the oldest currently a home-schooled four-year-old. I pray for my bother...
To: scholar
The average wife, mother and homemaker is not likely to get even 15 minutes of fame Maybe not to the general public. A good mother, however, gets a lifetime of praise and devotion from her family. Goes for husband, father and provider as well.
15 minutes of fame passes quickly, and nobody gives a s*** afterwards. Trust me.
To: RooRoobird14
No wackoe lefist woman's bumper is complete without THE original womyn sticker (BARF): "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle."
Followed by its rejoinder: "A man needs a woman like a fish needs a gill net."

My question is exactly what does the "Well-behaved women rarely make history" statement suppose to mean? She's at minimum a feminist and at worst......
You did say she was married to a man didn't you?

I don't think I'll be asking her that question. Perhaps you should. Those girls will see that sign on a regular basis.
"Mommy, what does this say? what does that mean?"
To: ctdonath2
Bump for all the wonderful women (and men) who do His work quietly every day. REAL women (and men) don't need the approval of pop culture.... empty bitchy trendy whiny windbags do.
To: the_devils_advocate_666
The same can be said of men. Rarely at the time someone is making history are they considered conventional or well-behaved. Seriously.
