UPDATE on the CPL(CCW) fingerprint fee increase bill in State Senate(Michigan)
MCRGO ^ | 4-27-02 | Ross Dykman

From the MCRGO message boards:

Calm down, gang...there are always going to be people trying to change the law back or modify it adversely. That's how government works.

But that's also why MCRGO is here and I have more good news to report. Sen. Chris Dingell offered an amendment which specifies that the new fee increase shall not apply to a "license-related law wherein a fingerprint processing and criminal record check fee is specified."

In short, fees will go up for other fingerprinting services, but not for CPL applications and renewals.

I have a hunch that the massed calls and faxes from you folks went a long ways in the effort to persuade the other members of that committee to adopt this amendment. Good job and thanks to Senators Dingell and Hoffman for the change.

Thank you Chris Dingell here, and we can work with Hoffman who while sometimes is wishy-washy, USUALLY does the right thing in the end. He's not a RINO. We can do better(Mickey Mortimer), but we can do a LOT worse(Clark Brisbee - a RINO) as well.

It would be nice to work toward the elimination of the fingerprint requirement. Some states do not require fingerprints, and they do not have any more problems than the others.

The obvious first thing in this approach is to eliminate fingerprinting for renewals. I believe Florida has already done this.
