DETROIT Black leaders converged here Saturday for a town hall meeting in advance of an annual fund-raising dinner benefiting the NAACP that is billed as the largest of its kind.

Among those taking part were Democratic Reps. John Conyers and Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, both of Michigan; Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick; the Rev. Al Sharpton; and attorney Johnnie Cochran.

It means he knew how to talk to them, to co-opt their style, and ingratiate himself without ever doing anything of substance. He felt their pain, so they voted for him. He just never actually did anything about that pain.

I would expect him to know the rituals of black culture, since he is black. I've been told he was the first black President.

Michael Eric Dyson, quoted in this article, is saying that he isn't as black as they thought he was(whatever that is). He just put on a very convincing act.
