County prefect says Istria will fight for independence with all available means

Pula, 14 May: Istrian prefect Ivan Jakovcic has said that Istria will fight for its independence as a region with "incidents, civil disobedience and all means available, if need be".

Commenting on the alleged present territorial reorganization of Croatia, he told journalists in Pula that Istria as a specific region wanted full regional autonomy and that it would persist in this aim.

"It is certain that almost 90 per cent of Istrian citizens would vote for this form of independent self-rule," said Jakovcic and added that this was a stance supported by the rest of the politicians in Istria.

Europe is demanding of Croatia to form so-called statistical regions which should have a minimum of 800,000 inhabitants.

Croatia has to fulfil this demand by 2006, which practically means that the Istria County, or the region ought to blend into a larger region.

A couple of months after I told the Freeper community that this was a possibility, we have confirmation.

Tropoljac, you thought I was kidding when I teased you with my "Free Istria!!!" post.

Free Istria from the dictatorial European Union! They can find another statistical region to bully.

Once again we can say to those who were for dismemebering of Yugoslavia: "We told you so!". It's like a nuclear chain reaction, once you start it (Balkanization) there is no end to it or, that is, the end is catastrophic.

You mean Germans. I read that German companies got a free hand at buying hotels and tourist objects on the Dalmatian coast. And, nope, they won't be happy to send their profits to Zagreb either.

Do you know what the population of Istria County is? It seems to me, though, that Europe is not promoting separatism here because it seeks to "blend" Istria with a larger region - a larger region whose other citizens will most likely not be so separatist.

Europe is demanding of Croatia to form so-called statistical regions which should have a minimum of 800,000 inhabitants.

Croatia has to fulfil this demand by 2006, which practically means that the Istria County, or the region ought to blend into a larger region.

I looked up the population of Istria County and it is about 203,000. So, it will be about 25% of the region that Europe wants it to be blended with. If the other 600,000 are, say, 20% separatist-minded then they combined with the 90% separatist-minded Istrians will only amount to a region with about 38% for separatism.

Istria County spreads across the Istrian Peninsula on 2820 km, from Uèka and Æiæarija Mountains westward. It consists of 9 towns and 29 municipalities, populated by 202,989 residents.

I believe this will happen all over the world, including right here in the US. Some of the cities that are currently part of Los Angeles are thinking of seceding. They want out of LA's high taxes for no benefit.

indeed Dalmatians are the most zenophobic nationalists in the Pennisula........and that is exactly why they are already grumbling about how Z-grad is robbing them.
