It does wake you up to how trivial personal problems are when taken in the context of this article.

There were all kinds of acts of heroism that day that we'll never know. My heart breaks all over again for the victims, survivors and all their families.

President's Remarks at National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Sept. 14 2001

THE PRESIDENT: We are here in the middle hour of our grief. So many have suffered so great a loss, and today we express our nation's sorrow. We come before God to pray for the missing and the dead, and for those who love them.

On Tuesday, our country was attacked with deliberate and massive cruelty. We have seen the images of fire and ashes, and bent steel.

Now come the names, the list of casualties we are only beginning to read. They are the names of men and women who began their day at a desk or in an airport, busy with life. They are the names of people who faced death, and in their last moments called home to say, be brave, and I love you.

They are the names of passengers who defied their murderers, and prevented the murder of others on the ground. They are the names of men and women who wore the uniform of the United States, and died at their posts.

They are the names of rescuers, the ones whom death found running up the stairs and into the fires to help others. We will read all these names. We will linger over them, and learn their stories, and many Americans will weep.

To the children and parents and spouses and families and friends of the lost, we offer the deepest sympathy of the nation. And I assure you, you are not alone.......

Thanks for posting this. I have family members that work for AON. It is my understanding that these men and women were true hero's who saved many lives by their actions.

I have been reading this material on the NYT site all evening since your post brought it to my attention.

What the @#$% can we do to make this issue front-and-center in the public consciousness? It's practically like it didn't happen, as we steadily lose what little national resolve we have left of what we had in the aftermath of September 11. Profiling would identify 100% of the people who fit 100% of the profile who committed 100% of the September 11 attacks. INSTEAD, towelheads walk through our airports with impunity, on and off airplanes, shooting people with shootguns, wearing bombs in their shoes like Maxwell Smart----meanwhile security strip searches Grandma Moses and Grandpa Walton because his hip replacement sets off the metal detector.

The media yanked the images of death by noon that day, Sept 11. I say media should show jumpers hitting the pavement and all of the most gruesome scenes; the words of relatives in these (sparse, brief, almost begrudging sounding obligatory) NYT interviews are so IMMEDIATE, reminding us that to THEM, to the victimss' families, this is as real as yesterday!

I wish it didn't have to happen again to rekindle our will and resolve to go after the enemies. It WOULDN'T require another occurence IF we'd let THIS ONE attack of SEPT 11 be sufficient to inspire us to do what's necessary WITHOUT CEASING until we have eliminated the enemy from the face of the earth. Why would we stop before that goal is acheieved? Yet, liberals now think accomodation of deathly and deadly islam is acceptable when it was clearly not acceptable with arguably even less deadly nazism, japanese imperialism and Soviet communism (which were all deadly, but DAMN---these moham ragheads make Hiro and Hitler and Stalin seem like pretty small adversaries in size and scope compared the billion mohammedans willing to kill themselves and sacrifice their kids to kill US just because of our freaking RELIGION!.....and they say *I* "hate" because I don't want to be around homos and pedos?....)
