BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ An 11-year-old city girl who police said was impregnated by a 75-year-old man has given birth.

A state Department of Children and Families spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday that the girl is now a mother. The girl and the baby are both in DCF custody.

``We will continue to be involved with her and the baby. Both are safe, spokeswoman Joan Gurski said.

Jimmy Kave, accused of fathering the child, is charged with six counts of first-degree sexual assault, eight counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree.

Police said Kave, who was arrested April 17, admitted having sex on several occasions with the girl beginning in January 2001, but claimed she had enticed him. Kave met the girl through an ``Adopt-A-Godparent'' program at his Bridgeport housing complex.

Authorities also charged the girl's doctors with failing to report the abuse to authorities when they learned she was pregnant. Attorneys for Drs. Mukesh Shah and Ann Lule have asked a judge to dismiss those charges, claiming there is insufficient evidence.

Doesn't matter. He's not being charged with paternity, but with sexual assault.

The paternity test, if it hasn't been done already, will definitely have to be done when they sue for part of the old geezer's estate.

I vaguely remember reading another article about this. The senior center was claiming that they HAD no "Adopt-A-Grandparent" program and that the mother and daughter had been snookered or...something. I'll try to find it again.

This guy should be toast (assuming the DNA matches).

An eleven-year-old can't give consent, so he's guilty no matter how she "enticed" him.

OTOH, courts have determined preteens are competent to disown their parents, consent to abortion, etc.

Maybe we need to reconsider all the "rights" we give to children without any responsibilities...
