one of the most interesting things about buffalo 66
is the main character (gallo's) is obsessed with buffalo bills kicker scott norwood (renamed in the movie). norwood's famous missed kick at the end of superbowl xxv is the plot device for sending gallo's character to jail. he had bet heavily on the bills and couldn't pay. the bookie makes him take the rap for some other crime as payment.
(offtopic even further - don't even think of bashing norwood for missing the kick. it was 47 yards. anything less than 45, yea, he should make it. shut up. i'm not listening.)
Missing the kick was NOT Norwood's fault. The Bills had blown out their opponents in every win that year, so the management and coaching staff did not feel the need to have a distance kicker on the team. Norwood was a solid kicker for them from shorter range.
No one save Giants fans thought Buffalo would have to kick a long field goal to win the Super Bowl that year. Us Giants fans knew that was the only way we could win...

Wouldn't do that. Did Norwood ever get another kicking job? I don't remember ever hearing his name again. And that's really unfair, because he wasn't a bad kicker at all. He managed to help get the Bills to the big show that year - too bad the rest of the team didn't perform as consistently as Norwood....
