June 5, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - More than half of the witnesses to November's Flight 587 crash in the Rockaways told National Transportation Safety Board probers they saw a fire while the plane was in the air, it was revealed yesterday.

The board said 52 percent of the eyewitnesses said they saw a fire aboard the plane. Another 20 percent said they didn't see any fire.

This is not necessarily inconsistent or contradictory.
Depending on their viewing position, moment of visual
contact, orientation of sun, etc some aspects may not
be visible to all viewers. But 52% seeing flames is a
certainty.

18 percent of the witnesses said the plane turned right, while another 18 percent said the plane turned left. Twenty percent said they didn't see any smoke, while 22 percent said they did.

Again, this is not surprising. And given the clumsiness of interviews, I wouldn't be surprised if the questions were imprecise.

If that idiot hadn't botched it, there would have been another one over the Atlantic, and the FEDS would be scratching their heads, looking for fumes from the fuel tank etc.

Commercial air-travel is now unsafe, and will remain so until the correct procedures are accomplished. In the meantime, many Airlines will collect zillions of subsidies of tax-dollars, just so we can say: "Flying is safe, and by-the-way, we're gonna strip-search that 80-year-old white-woman, and let the swarthy, 25-year-old Arab with the pound of Semtex in a condom up his ass board the plane!"

It was that darn food and beverage cart. That darn thing rolled recklessly out of control to the back of the plane causing the tail to fall off in midair. Simple, nothing here. Skip on down!

You are right on that one, my friend. Why do you think we haven't heard anymore about it. Remember it was caught on tape? Where is the tape? The tape would show exactly what happened. I still say that if only one plane hit the WTC and there wasn't any proof of a hijacker taking over the plane, the Gov't would have explained that one away too as just a malfunction or something. I still remember the day, when the first plane hit all the media was saying that it was probably pilot error and not terrorist. Just like Flt. 587. "We don't know what it was but we do know that it was not a terrorist attack". Yeah Right... And Flt #800 was just a malfunction.

That's too logical. We're dealing with irrational lunatics here...remember Mullah Omar's decree that "planes will continue to fall from the sky"? Besides, for three months after 9-11 the al-Qaeda gang denied being involved in the hijacking/murders, even though evidence was overwhelming.

Then again, perhaps the "logic" behind not claiming responsibility is to get Americans to think EVERY mishap is due to the BinLadenGang, and thus instill terror by inferrence.

Ah, and let's not forget that report of terrorists having dozens of surface-to-air missle launchers, but "there is no evidence" that they have plans to use them against commercial airplanes. Riiiiiiiiiight.

First, there are films of the plane. Do the films show smoke? I don't remember seeing smoke on the film on tv, but there is also a film by a camera on one of the highways that I haven't seen. Any freepers rememberthe films? It is not unusual for people to "remember" an airplane in flames when they see a crash, even when there was no flames.

Second, if you really want a conspiracy theory, then explain how the tail fell off and then the engines fell off. I understand it was supposed to be turbulance, but would turbulance at low levels make all three things fall off?,

Third, did anyone catch Bevelaqua on Fox and friends, when they asked him about stinger missles, he said bluntly that that had probably happened with TWA 800. That was early AM. By the time of the evening news shows, when they asked him, he changed the story. Does anyone else remember this?

That's a very easy assumption. But then why did no explosive residue turn up? Why didn't any terrorist org take credit? Their goal is to disrupt/destroy our economy and transportation modes. Not taking credit seems incredibly counterintuitive.

I realize I'm boring all the conspiracy theorists out there, and I'm very suspect of the "mid-air break-up reports," but anything beyond that is pure speculation right now.

...Flight 587 went down just 5 hours after I got off my own Flight from Washington, D.C. Veterans Day Weekend activites at the Vietnam Wall. A cross country flight I took knowing full well that there would probably be another Jet Airliner going down that very weekend.

You will have to ask the Al Quaida people what the point is. They have never issued communiques, not for the emabassy bombings, WTC '93, the Cole, or even 9/11. I think the reason is that they do not want us to change our behavior, they simply want to kill us. Which is why we must kill them before they get hold of smallpox, a nuke, or another effective WMD.
