Surprise, surprise, surprise!
There may well be someone out there neurotic enough to be "homo" phobic.
That is, having a panic attack when confronted with a "homo".
That's never what they were talking about.

So does this mean that homosexual men who are disgusted by women or the thought of sex/marriage with them are *prejudiced* and need to be reoriented through "education in homes and schools?" If not, why not?
Gosh, is this starting to sound familiar... All prejudices are equal, but some are more equal than others. It's OK to be disgusted by heterosexuality, but not by homosexuality.

Okay, okay . . . fagogagia?

I agree with you in that this should be very obvious. This study wasn't needed because it told us what we already know.
But they can call it "fear" or "disgust" all they want. For me, I've never met a homosexual in whom I was afraid.
Homosexuality is disgusting. They very thought of men having sex with men (or women with women) is nauseating.

Like you, I could have told them the same thing. Years ago when I worked as a secretary, a lesbian temp approached me on the job. She asked if I was interested and I said, firmly No! She said if you don't try it you may not know what you are missing. I told her, I didn't think she'd like it at all, because if she touched me I'd throw up all over her.
I also remember my husband and another guy discussing kissing another man. Both said the same thing - they'd throw up. Do we hate gays? No. We have many gay friends and as long as they don't approach us, we remain friends. These stupid studies annoy me.

The fact that for the last 20 years, Pol. Cor. has driven the media, the educational estab. and even some industries and the military to accept homosexuality as an alternative and, AND an ACCEPTABLE life style. Out here in SoCal there are 3-4 state legislators, Kuehl, Migdan, Goldberg who are using the legal-leg. arena to force this life=style on schools, business, government and would like to go after churches. The fact that some 50 million Christians and other religious groups think that their faith, their scriptures, and historical tradition state that the life-style is not ACCEPTABLE, is now largely discounted. As a Christian, I personally am saddened about that and will not let hatred on either side to disuade me from banking my belief system on life styles determined by our Creator God in Christ. Of course, in today's society, that constitutes homophobia. The very charge that liberals, Dems, gays make is as much a phobia against faith systems that there is but again our culture dismisses that.

Dang it!
I was hoping my homophobia would qualify me for the Americans with Disabilities Act.

I recall a study that was done a while ago. An undergraduate class was shown three pornographic films, on separate days. One film was male homosexuals, one film was female homosexuals, and one film was heterosexuals. The study consisted of noting the sex of the students who excused themselves from the classroom for the duration of the film.
I recall that the results were that during the "straight" film, the students who left were evenly divided between men and women. During the male homosexual film, mostly men left the room, and during the female homosexual film, mostly women left the classroom.
Yes, this ties in, because viewing images of someone who, even vaguely looks like oneself performing a disgusting act, will cause disquiet.

Well, since the combining form
homo means either "man", or "sameness", and
phobia means "a fear of", it follows that the,
subjects who showed homophobic tendencies, title would apply to conservatives who can indeed be found in great numbers living in sparsely populated rural areas, due to their
fear of large masses of humanity.
Also evident is their belief system strongly rooted in individuality due to their inexplicable obsessive fear of "sameness," "mediocrity," and "labor unions."
It also would follow that the actual fear is that which is possessed by the genetically indistinguishable "homo"(sic)"secksuals", namely...heterophobia.
To: Clara Lou
Of course we all knew this...even the queers know it.
They should call this condition "homopukia."

.
"But this tells us there's a perception of contagion that feeds into homophobia." Perception? Four million cases of AIDS and they think it's a perception? How about the reality of contagion?

Thank you!

I often make allusion to those FReepers who you NEVER see on any other threads but those regarding topics about which they're obsessed.
Thus, you NEVER see "Shuckmaster" on any thread but one about the "glory" of the "Confederacy," and you NEVER see "jlogajan" unless it's a thread about homosexuality.

Homophobia is not an actual phobia, according to three University of Arkansas psychologists. In a recent study, these researchers showed that homophobia originates not out of fear or anxiety -- as true phobias do -- but from feelings of disgust. You have just heard the sound of the death of three academic careers...
