Americans, all Americans have the same fundamental hopes, needs and desires regardless of their race or ethnicity.
Sometimes it takes a sojourn away from our own ethnic group and into the midst of another to appreciate just how much we all have in common.
This elected oficial is not, I hope, rabidly racist. He may simply be looking at his role from a too narrow viewpoint and with an ingrained bias.
Is that type of thinking racist? Absolutely!
Can it be alleviated? Depending on the individual, yes! (Whether he is black or white.)

The elected official in question is probably THE most racist person I've every known. His black racism makes David Duke look tame.

One more thing that's ironic is that this is the town in which the movie "A Time to Kill" was filmed.

Ah, then the problem is the voters who either fail to recognize his racism or do see it and vote for him anyway.
An appeal must be made to Amercian voters to recognize the broader common interests which transcend race.
The differences between liberty and collectivism is something which is not discussed enough in any election let alone local elections.
I suppose this is easier said than done, yet no one ever seems to try.
