Yesterday it was reported on Tampa's WFLA radio that Janet Reno and "summer intern" Martin Sheen had dropped by the Baptist Church of College Park to promote her campaign to be the next governor of Florida.
For those who are not familiar with Tampa, College Hill is that section of our fair city that is the most utterly destitute. Based on reputation alone I would say that College Park might be considered similar to South Central LA, or certain areas in Washington DC that the experienced traveler would actively avoid out of concerns for personal safety.
What was Reno's "message from the pulpit"? It was a message advocating the restoration of voting rights for convicts. Since the time I was a child certain social values were drummed into my head by an educational establishment that now pushes a very different agenda (everyone remember the "melting pot" vs today's "diversity"?). One of the concepts really driven home in high school civics classes was that, once convicted, one looses the right to vote.
Another pillar of American democracy, it seems, is going right down the drain.

Ugliness--dumb needs something to look down to!
1) e-petitions don't work. The best way to get action is to write to your representatives directly via e-mail or mail.
2) Folks are giving out far too much personal information to an unsecure site. Best intentions may be at heart, however this information can be viewed by anyone.
If I remember the last election correctly the Demoncrats have a rather large (if illegal) Con constituency in Florida already.
As for personal information,, I would not put anything on the net that I did not care if the WORLD knew.. actually the more the merrier IMHO.. I respect those who wish to keep so called personal information private...
