And the next step: DEPORT the buggers...

If they won't leave, plant a full metal jacket in'em and wait for the "flowers" to grow.

Capture, and hold, and purge the Palestinians should be the task at hand. No Arab state has ever entertained a Palestinian state, so why should Israel.

You can predict the Arab response: something loud, self-defeating, brutal. Perhaps Gandhi will get his way after all. The wild card is Europe.

Probably insufficient.

Israel MUST make hamacide cost more than the $50,000
and other benefits which accrue to the families of the murderers,
befriended by the Arabs, Annan, Turner and friends, and the US State Department.

To hell with Europe, and to a special part of hell with the "arab world". Know what I mean? It seems the eventual separation is underway. Israel has to do this.

The Paliban war crimes should be driven home by the execution of total war against all who plan, supply, and offer aid and comfort to these mass murderers. The seized buffer land should be free fire zones until the few thousand surviving Palestinians leave. The Paliban established these rules of engagement; there are no rules.

Hamas? Allah ukk barf.

It depends on how serious Israel is (i.e. will they rebuff Powell when he comes again to save Arafat). This is likely to cause the Palestinians to go ballistic in the short term, so more violence will be attempted (though will be less likely to succeed under such high alert and with the IDF in the territories).

Facts on the ground can be much more important than concepts floated by an American President -- if Israel has the wherewithal to withstand pressue from the Administration to withdraw.

No doubt the Saudis are already on the phone to the White House vaguely discussing problems of oil supply. Israel may have to fight terror on their own, because terror only seems to be fought by us at the oil's edge. Or perhaps we'll be fortunate and Bush will finally take a harder line on the Palestinian issue and with his Saudi "partners". But I doubt it -- those "moderate" Arab states have already been trumpeting their "capture" of Al Qaeda "operatives". That's a chit in the pot for them.

I just think in the end Bush prefers this to be a war of words and a police-type action, whereas backing Israel against Palestinian terror means a real war fought to the hilt. I just haven't seen evidence he (or we) has the stomach for that.

Israel launches new West Bank offensive
Mourners pray for 51-year-old Rahamin Zidkiyahu
Nineteen Israelis died in Tuesday morning's blast
Israeli troops will seize parts of the West Bank and hold them as long as terror attacks continue, the Israeli Government has announced.

Against terrorist acts, Israel will respond by capturing territories of the Palestinian Authority - these territories will be held by Israel as long as terror continues

Israeli Government statement
The new military campaign would signal "a change in the way Israel responds to murderous acts of terror", according to a government statement.

Dozens of tanks and armoured vehicles backed by helicopter gunships have already stormed Jenin after an emergency Israeli cabinet meeting discussed responses to a morning rush-hour bus attack that killed 19 Israeli civilians and a Palestinian suicide bomber.

The deadliest attack in Jerusalem for six years prompted the offensive which, according to the government, will capture "Palestinian Authority territory".

"These areas will be held by Israel as long as terror continues," the statement added.

Israel's cabinet approved a series of military operations
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said the bombing of the bus carrying mostly schoolchildren and office workers - which also left 50 people injured - was an argument "stronger than any words" against Palestinian statehood.

US President George W Bush had been expected to outline an American vision for the setting up of a Palestinian state - and possibly a timetable for that to happen - and his spokesman said he would not be put off by the latest "act of terror".

Expanded action

Mr Sharon's cabinet approved "a series of military actions" as an answer to the attack by a man using a bomb packed with nails in southern Jerusalem.

This terrible thing that we are seeing is the continuation of the Palestinian terror and we must fight and struggle against this terror and this is what we will do

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon

Israel Radio said the operations would be "bigger and wider" than recent action which has seen almost nightly raids on towns such as Jenin which are viewed as bastions of militants and future suicide bombers.

Both the town of Jenin and its neighbouring refugee camp were reported to have come under fire from the ground and the air and buildings had been struck by artillery shells.

Recent raids followed the ending of the mass occupation of Palestinian towns under Operation Defensive Shield which ran from 29 March to 10 May.

That action was launched after 29 Israelis died in the "Passover Massacre" bombing of a hotel.

The BBC correspondent Caroline Hawley reported residents of Ramallah - the West Bank town which is home to the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat - were stocking up on food and medicines in case the Israeli Army returned.

Mourners for bomb victim Shiri Nagari, 22, at her funeral
Hamas said it would attack more Israeli targets
The Palestinian Authority denounced the nail-bomb attack but was held accountable by Mr Sharon who, unusually for him, went to the bloodstained scene.

Mr Sharon said he would take strong action against the perpetrators of the violence.

"This terrible thing that we are seeing is the continuation of the Palestinian terror and we must fight and struggle against this terror and this is what we will do," he said.

The militant group Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombing and promised further attacks on Israelis.

Bloody morning

A schoolboy, Yakir Barashi, who had just got off another bus, saw the effect of the bomb.

"People were flying in the air, there was blood everywhere," the 14-year-old said.

"I'm afraid to go on a bus, to go to school. I saw one kid with nails cutting into his entire body."

In Hebron, Israeli commandos killed a senior member of the military wing of the radical Islamic Jihad group.

At least 1,403 Palestinians and 530 Israelis have been killed since the Palestinian uprising began in September 2000.

When the telephone rings with a REAL plan to end terrorism,
and to bring Enduring Freedom and security to NOT be Colin Powell on the line.

He is too busy running for VP of the US on the Democrat ticket
and for co-President of "Palestine".

I agree it is excellent, but I don't know about the Bush delaying rationale. It simply would have looked craven and too blatantly appeasing to call for a Palestinian state the day after this massacre of schoolchildren. Bush claims not to have changed his position, and merely is delaying his speech. From the sounds of it, his speech and Israel's (finally!) new policy of retaking territory and holding it until the cessation of violence are not sympatico.

However, his delay may now be "continued" for some time (my conjecture) due to a change in facts on the ground (Israel's offensive maneuver).

If I lived there..

There would be 3 conditions for "piece".

[1] On any suicide bombing the town that supplied the bomber would be bulldozed to flatland.. At this point most of the "disputed territories" would be flat land.

[2] Any eventual Pally State would be no less than 200 miles fron the nearest Israel border. Can you imagine if Israel was NYC and the Pally State was NJ??? Think about it..

[3] Once a Pally State was established.. such an terrorist act would be an Act of War between Countrys and the entire State would become a very deep Black Hole.. I know this sounds like violence? but sometimes war is justified..

AMEN....

but sometimes war is justified

Our policy in this part of the world has been, since the Clinton years and perhaps even before, peace at all costs. Bush's policy remains peace at all costs -- you can hear it in every speech and statement he gives regarding the Israel/Palestinian issue.

However, as Churchill once said, sometimes war is the only moral policy. Apparently, our society has immersed itself way too far into the flower-power, free-love, smoke-that-dooby psyche for even a center-right President to feel comfortable with true war (not various and limited forms of police actions) as a policy.

Good points. I sincerely believe that much of what the President is doing regarding Palestine is posturing, and behind the scenes is in close contact with Sharon. Bush has stated before that he'll support a Palestinian State as long as they accept the right of Israel to exist. That will never happen.

My post was non-violent.. IMHO.. It is hard to make bombs and stage terror from pup tents.. or stage raids from barren land as far as the eye can see.. No violence to ppl per se.. they will hafta find shelter in the EU, Ted Turner's estate or other place that wants that bad behavior around. The Arab communitys have been smart enough not to stick their necks out.....

I have HAD it!!! If I were in charge (and I'm not, by
G-D's wonderful insight into ME), I'd do this:

1. Make all the Terrorist-leaders DEAD
2. Get the Snipers in the Army posted all over the country,
fully loaded, and ready to go, but NOT seen.
3. Snipe any demonstrators celebrating death...just give
them what they want.
4. Round up ALL the Pallies, and take them to the border,
and let'em go. If the bordering countries have a
problem, take 'em to the sea.
5. Build walls all around the borders of Israel - INCLUDING
the West Bank. Wall off Gaza, and put any Pallies
there who weren't sent off earlier.
6. Pass laws to prohibit the practice of ISLAM in
Israel, since it is a cult of death.
7. Pass laws to prohibit any Muslims in the country.
8. Institute the death penalty - with pork packing
the body - for anyone guilty of terrorism against
Israel, and for anyone in possession of explosives,
without a specific permit issued from the Govt.
9. Pass laws that defile the Muslims, so they will leave.
10. Refuse to allow any Muslims/Arabs any part in the
government, rescind the positions already there.
11. Ignore the US and UN who are undermining the security
of the State of Israel.
12. Announce that Israel will no longer try to "make nice"
with ANYONE who states their intention of killing Jews.

PERIOD. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I did! I didn't get his name, but he was the former Arab League ambassador to the UN. That left Alan with Mark Regev, who is very kind on the eyes :-)) Then the report from Bob Arnott, who really gave a perspective on today's bombing. I got choked up & mad when he described a young girl who was decapitated and the line of body bags, an arm here, a leg there....

I also saw on a scroll on one of the cable news stations tonight that Hezbollah denied that Al Qaeda members are helping the Palestinians. I figure if Hezbollah denies it, it must be true.

My own feeling is that Israel should NOT hold the land "until terror abates". It should hold the land permanently. Every Arab terrorist act should be punished with the loss of yet another village - letting (or forcing) all the Moslems to leave with everything they can carry - and that piece of real estate becomes Israeli forever. Many of the PLO colonies are mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, so Israel has a legitimate historical claim; Nablus was originally called Shechem, Hebron was the original capital before Jerusalem, Bethlehem was the birthplace of King David, etc.

The Arabs seem to be Very Slow learners, but when they start to realize that their share of the map shrinks, permanently, with every terrorist act, they might start acting civilized.
