The monism of Islam, Lewis suggests, is also evident in its aversion to polyphonic music. In polyphony, voices and instruments—whether in duets, trios, or full orchestra—are “following different routes in a common purpose.” “Different performers play together, from different scores, producing a result that is greater than the sum of its parts.”

Music is integral to Christian worship, forbidden in muslim worship. Congregational singing is reputed to be one of the things a muslim invited to your church will find most offensive to his sensibilities. So how best to evangelize muslims?

If it were just music that Islam forbids, we'd have an easier time. There is little respect for almost everything else: women, non-blievers, animal life. At the same time hatred and violence are glorified.
