I hope the White House makes our VP very comfortable and relaxed. Some one should serve Mr. Cheney some breakfast in bed and make sure he's not jogging at the time he assumes command. I don't want Tom Daschle running this country!

Simple outpatient surgery. The only reason Cheney is set in place is because the procedure does allow for sedation if necessary. But he can be awake the entire time.

IS THIS REALLY A NEWSSTORY (AP has a slow newsday???) Bush to Be Sedated for Colonoscopy

I guess it shows what a circumspect person I am...I just about freaked
when I heard NBC's Andrea Mitchell say talk about an examination of President Reagan's
colon and rectum.

Well, I guess if we get up-close description of one President's "staff of power",
we're going to hear about every President's body parts.

The question before the house, though, should be why the hell would Mr. Bush or anyone want to be awake for a colonoscopy. Bad enough that he's likely, until the procedure is done, to get a lot of kidding along the line of up yours!...

I don't believe it would be Sen Daschle, he is just majority leader - not Pres Pro Tem. which I believe is Sen Byrd of WV. Anyone please correct me, if I'm wrong. Please Lord, don't let Senator KKK take charge.BWAAAA!

I am aware of what the procedure is.

(BONES is a doctor!)

I'm just thinking on one hand...gee...the media is sure stupid to need to spout off about this procedure... must be pretty slow today!

The other thought was that it must really be lousy to not be able to even get a colonoscopy without some major media outfit violating medical confidentiality.

The third thought was that the VP better be seen and alert tomorrow morning. We don't need Tom Daschle (third in line) running us even for 10 minutes!

ORDER OF U.S. PRESIDENTIAL SUCCESSION:

The Vice President Richard Cheney
Speaker of the House John Dennis Hastert
President pro tempore of the Senate Robert Byrd
Secretary of State Colin Powell
Secretary of the Treasury Paul O'Neill
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld
Attorney General John Ashcroft
Secretary of the Interior Gale A. Norton
Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman
Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans
Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao
Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy G. Thompson
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Melquiades Rafael Martinez
Secretary of Transportation Norman Yoshiro Mineta
Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham
Secretary of Education Roderick Paige
Secretary of Veterans Affairs Anthony J. Principi

Constitutionally, Congress is to decide who is next beyond this point.
I don't think you need to worry about Tommy running the country (assuming you meant other than the subtle way he's trying to do so now).

Tom Daschle will NEVER assume the Presidency. Next in line is Dennis Hastert, the Speaker of the House.

EGAD! You're right... I just looked it up at another website and the Senate Pres Pro Tempore is Robert Byrd...!!!P> What the heck is the Senate thinking????

Thanks to the Senate Democrats, we have a person next in line who wouldn't pass a standard physical exam for driving a car!

I've seen colonoscopies performed without sedation and I would describe them as very uncomfortable (medical euphemism for "it hurts like a SOB"). Give GWB all the sedation he can handle I say. Sigmoidoscopies, on the other hand, use a shorter scope and generally are performed without sedation. That's it for today's Fun Facts on Colonic Procedures.

Any possibility might sneak troops to protect our border while he's asleep?

If the order of creation of the department is involved, then the Secretary of Homeland Defense is last in succession. It looks like the list may go by the order in which the department was created. Is that correct?
