If anyone wonders why you can see through the road bed on suspension bridges (all that metal grating in the road open to the air and sea) this is the reason: In 1942, one was built here in Washington (the first Tacoma Narrows) that didn't have those features. The road bed became the equivalent of a really big, heavy, sail in the first big wind storm to come by. The results are before your eyes. And you thought government projects only got screwed up these days?
