UG, I don't know how the Mormon pioneers did it. I understand they used to put wet sheets over the doors and windows. That still wouldn't do much good, to my way of thinking!

Anyway, I know we are all still praying hard for that little girl. There is still hope.

I'll quit complaining. I've been in Las Vegas when it was that hot, it is like a wall of heat that hits you. We're all still praying for Elizabeth too.

But do you have the humidity like we do? The sweat just rolls off you if your standing still in the shade. I think out west it more of a dry heat. Here the air is thick and actually looks like smog and it is hazy way out here in the country. I drove over 250 miles today in this as the AC is out in my car (it is going in on Monday for repairs). I have never been out west any farther than the center of Texas and I have been to Mexico at the Texas border. It was hot down there, but not near the humidity we get here. We need rain so bad...! I wish some of it from Texas would reach us.

Today when I was in St. Louis.... I found some fabric that when I saw it I thought of Mary K... I have been thinking about making her a snuggle quilt and to mail it off to her. The fabric I bought today has got the cutest pictures of Dogs & Cats on it. I thought about using it on the back of the quilt as it is totally covered in the pictures of the dogs and cats.

It was so cute I could hardly pass it up... Now I need to decide what type of pattern blocks to use for the quilt top. I want the small quilt to be interesting but different on both sides.
The dogs stuck out at me because of her being so puppy crazy right now. I wonder what type of puppy they got her.
Oh well I thought I would share it with all of you...When I get the quilt done I'll take a picture of it and share it with all of you. Right now I am working on another quilt, but once I get the top finished on that one... I'll start on Mary K's.

Time to hit the bed... I am pooped out from today!

Right now at almost midnight, it is 94 degrees with 18 percent humidity. Not too bad, but it does get higher sometimes. That's why we don't sweat out here - evaporates first. But sweat is what helps keep you cool, so the fact humidity is low doesn't seem to make it any cooler, IMO.

That is such a cute pattern. She'll LOVE it! What a nice thing you are doing. Takes a long time to make a quilt. It'll be nice for her to cuddle up in with her puppy.

I have a son out your way. He lives in O'Fallon. Works at the local hospital.

I haven't hit the bed yet... So your son is in O'Fallon (would that be IL or MO)? O'Fallon IL is north of us. I guess between 50 and 60 miles. So have been here to IL before? It's a fairly boring state, it gets worse the farther south you go. I'll trade you places... You come here and live and I will move to LV. I want to visit the west soooo bad, maybe someday. I know Utah is really pretty also.

Well I am going to say some prayers and hit the bed. I hope something breaks soon on this case... but I know this case will be in the news for along time to come. They still have to find her and her kidnapper if they don't already have him yet... Then it will go to trial.

He's in Missouri, a few minutes from St Louis. I used to go to Chicago every summer when I was a kid. Loved it. Awfully nice people in Chicago. You'd really like Utah. There's some of the most beautiful scenery in the world there. I've always wanted to live in the Northeast corner of Utah. Lots of fishing spots. :0)

At this point, I don't care if they catch her kidnapper or not. I just want them to find Elizabeth ... ALIVE. All children are precious, but it's true that some of them are special. Elizabeth is special. I think her beauty and her innocence is what drew that evil person to her.

Can someone tell me why we're being deluged by the press on this story? I turn off the tube whenever it's mentioned and could NOT care less. As far as I'm concerned, it's just
another sign of the press' being too lazy to find and meaningful news.

It gets hot and humid here in Houston. Amazingly, June was not too bad. Now, the temperature is starting to rise and it feels like a sauna when you go outside.

The parents and relatives are doing the right thing by searching areas missed by searchers or which might not have been searched. I guess they learned from the Chandra Levey case. There the distraought parents were adviced to hired a lawyer who ended up doing nothing for them. At the time Chandra disappeared my husband and I were saying that we would have hired a PI who most likely could have told them that parts of the park were not searched.

Grateful for the ping to this thread...I am still hoping that Elizabeth will be found, but each day that passes, just makes me more pessimistic, that she will be found alive and well..but one never knows...

I see many are talking about the weather where they live, so I will add my weather report...


I am reporting from Olympia, Washington...the great Pacific Northwest...right now the temp is 58, due to go all the way up to 77...by mid week, we will be having a heat wave, temps all the way up to 85....

However, I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois...and well remember the brutal summers there, extreme heat and humidity...then lived near Ft. Bragg N.C.....again, brutal summer heat and humidity...

Lived for about 1 1/2 yrs near Ukiah Cal...really extreme heat there, sometimes days on end over 110...but being on the edge of the desert, the heat is very dry...almost no humidity to deal with....

But whether humid or not, high heat is high heat, and I for one am glad that there, we dont have to deal with it...

Daily prayers for Elizabeth Smart and her family do continue here...I pray for her safe return...but if her safe return, is not what is to be, then I pray for her family to endure, for what may lie ahead for them...God is all, and a refuge, no matter the circumstances...

It's a cool 80 degrees in MA right now. It got up to 96 here with a heat index of 104. Wintery compared to some places it seems.
