I live in Baltimore County. I have NEVER seen as many bumper stickers for a candidate before. Way more than Bush/Cheney. There are stickers on cars that don't ordinarily bear stickers and are the only one on a car. Somebody in the Ehrlich campaign is doing a good job. Of course, this is Ehrlich country--he lives 1 mile from me!

As a Marylander I assure all that Kennedy will have enough dead and double voters to win. If not then the votes will materalize out of nothing. The most corrupt city on earth is Baltimore, in my opinion, when it comes to vote fruad.

Glad to hear it. I am on the Eastern Shore, the GOP does fairly well around here normally. Perhaps the Dims will not rig a win if it keeps going this way.

The Dem advantage is really only Prince George's (Steele's home base), Baltimore (where the voting advantage has been in the cemeteries), and Montgomery County. Erlich can win with just one of those three districts.

In Montgomery County? One of the most liberal areas in the United States? I don't think so. I know, because I live in this rich liberal elitist county.

"16 percent favored increasing the income tax for households earning more than $100,000."

What a bunch of losers.....

Can we really beat or come close to beating Maryland's Queen of Liberalism?

I am not optimistic. Look at the facts: Maryland has the highest (by far) percentage of Blacks; the highest (by far) percentage of Government Workers. And the #1 issue that decides state-wide elections in Maryland is the “D” behind the candidates name.

Kennedy-Townsend suddenly lost the independent voters......uh oh!

In Maryland, “independent voters” are best defined as Government Workers who have a gripe with their boss, or Blacks who likewise have a current gripe with the leaders. … “Losing the independents in the polls” is a classic Maryland bell-ringer for the politicians, and means: “Take care of our minor gripes before the election.” And the politicos always come through. They don’t like to use vote-fraud unless they have to – especially with a Republican heading the DOJ.

I live in West Virgina, but work during the week in Washington, DC so I often am driving through Western Maryland.

The people of western Maryland tend to be very conservative and seem to be getting pretty sick of the liberal domination from the population centers such as Baltimore in the Eastern part of the state.

The onerous gun control legislation didn't sit very well in the rural parts of Maryland and the tobacco tax increase was the last straw.

There's every reason to believe Ellen Sauerbrey won a majority of the votes in the '94 gubernatorial election, but that the Dems stole the election using those Baltimore City votes. Of course, at that time the Dems controlled the White House and thus the U.S. Attorney's office. I wonder if the Republicans would go after the Dems in Baltimore if they try again to steal an election so brazenly.

You're obviously one of the smart ones (living somewhere OTHER than Maryland). I'm stuck rigth in the middle of one of the most intensely liberal places in the country... Montgomery County. I made the mistake of investing in property here and will have a hard time selling it all off to move to a less socialist state.

No, we can't. This is why I am slowly (should make that quickly) working on plans to sell everything off and get out of Maryland. Glendening just went on a spending spree that we can't afford so now, of course, taxes will have to be raised on "the rich" (roughly 75% of the Maryland population) to pay for the new giveaways.

You need to talk to the last Republican candate for MD governor, Ellen Saurbrey who won the election in '94 until the Dem machine brought out the dead people, the people who live in long boarded up houses, and the board of elections director's voting machine mechanic brother (is he out of jail yet?). Anyway, Ellen would tell you some sad stories. I worked for her after the election and I saw it with my own eyes. I regret Bob Erlich is in for an undeserved trip to the MD woodshed.

Ehrlich's problem (especially with those of us in the OC resort area) is his pro-gambling stance. I cannot vote for him, and I surely cannot vote for her. Therefore, I am without a viable option. I am afraid the gambling issue is going to kill any chance the Republican's have of beating Townsend.

Although I am going to vote for Ehrlich, I have no doubt that the democrats will steal the election (just like glendening did in his first election) if the race is close enough to be stolen, i.e., within a few percentage points.

In order for Ehrlich to win, he needs to get a margin large enough so that it cannot be stolen by the dems.

It has just been announced that a debate is going to take place (next week, I believe) in downtown Baltimore ------sponsored by the NAACP! I guess the questions will be fair and even-handed? I guess lots of white people will be delighted to attend to hear the candidates discuss the issues if it takes place after dark! I guess the Shrum/Carville group has already written the Sunpaper page two "editorial" decrying the 'poor turnout' of Ehrlich supporters.

Unfortunately, there are enough empty houses in Baltimore city to change any election. Corruption is true in the sense of a deadly disease - the ulcer is spreading ever further outward. It is so sad to see a city die.

Any specific info on date and time? I'd be interested in attending... unless the NAACP pulls a "hire an audience" stunt and not let just anyone attend.

Never bet against a Kennedy running for public office.

I wonder what their collective record is...
