But it is not because of any help from Microsoft or Macromedia.

That's because neither of those companies are your problem. If you wish to complain to someone, it should be to the website designers who are using Macromedia and Flash in their layouts. Macromedia and Microsoft are simply helping you by telling you that the content that the web designer is offering you is not available to you without their products. I'm sorry that you see some kind of corporate plot involved, but that simply isn't the case.

You think this is a "Free Republic" issue? Ha. Yes, you took a wrong turn. Whine and cheese is in aisle 4.

Yeah...I thought it was a Free Republic issue of general interest since more than likely other Freepers have encountered the same situation.

And it is at least as relevant as some of YOUR recent posts about "Topless Car Wash" or "Troubled by being short?"

Thanks for your courteous response.

You're welcome. Glad to help. Always ready to inject humor into a thread.

You know Jim, if you walk out your front door and get hit in the face with a cream pie, and that happens for a dozen or so days in a row, at some point you learn that you should change your routine (or have the joker arrested for trespassing) or expect that the same thing is going to happen when you open the door.

It's like that with this Flash/Macromedia popup thing. It's going to happen, and you're not going to change the world by whining about it.

If you haven't gotten that message from this thread, then maybe some more humor IS in order. Either we laugh at something else, or we laugh at poor Jim, who doesn't get it. Your choice, maybe.

Well..this is my last comment on this topic.

"It" isn't going to happen anymore to me since respondent Glenn gave me a simple straightforward answer to the problem.

I can't fathom how asking for help on a what I perceive to be a problem can be construed as "whining".

And your brand of "humor" is a bit snide for my taste.

You have my permission to pass right on by without reading my posts, seeing as how they're so offensive to you. No pain here.

Flash player is used on nytimes.com for advertisements I do not want. I am not missing anything. If I try to stop the install, it erases the article I am in the middle of reading, then says I have a server error. Do you work for these jerks or what?

I don't want the plug-in. Why push it down my throat. Maybe if we all disabled flash player, the jerks who use it would get fired and we could all move a little faster.

You can also uninstall the Macromedia plugin. For PC's, go to Start, choose Settings, choose Add/Remove Programs, find the Macromedia entry and uninstall it.

The only one that ever gave me any problems
was that stupid REAL player.

Flash and Macromedia rocks. If you don't have it installed, you will never be able to view my Inaugeral Ball presentation.

Has anyone found a solution to the insidious ads that keep popping up on some web sites practically demanding that one install "Macromedia", or "Shockwave" or Flash Player"?

Just say "yes" to the download and stop whining about it.

No, I insist on reading them, then responding in twenty-page diatribes, about how they are so terrible.

It's much more satisfying.

Yes, many FReepers encounter this situation. In fact, every internet surfer encounters the exact same situation. You are among the few who see it as a 'problem'.

Among your solutions:

FR Search for Topless Car Wash, specify Exact Phrase, and click on the thread at the top of the list of three.
