What do you think your name sake would do about the border issue?

I don't know what Reaganwuzthebest's answer is, but I'll try...

Where our borders are NOT inside a city, we dig a 100' wide by 30' deep trench on OUR side, with a 30' high fence on the inner side of the trench. At 60' from the fence have a yellow line on the ground, with appropriate languages saying, "US Territory! Proceed to nearest checkpoint for entry. Any closer than 50' is grounds for execution!".

At 50' is a red line in on the ground. Spaced at 75 yards are towers with heat sensors, motion detectors, and radar trackers attached to the equivalent of a ZSU-34 AA canon the Russians used. These will be connected to command towers at appropriate spacings that are manned.

At 49', the shooting begins.

Where the border is within a city, fortify the border of said city with the same 30' high fence, patroled accordingly by trained personnel charged with the defense of the US!

Any attempt to penetrate said fence, or run the border checkpoint is dealt with by summary execution...no questions, no EXEMPTIONS!

Seaports patroled by fast attack gunboats and Coast Guard cutters at the 3 mile limit checking ALL incoming traffic...Apache helicopters in full attack mode on a "ready 5" status. Inside 3 miles, any craft not yielding is in a free-fire zone!

Is that a good start?

I'd like to know where Garza stands on so-called "bilingual education," as well. But Amnesty remains, as always, my deal breaker.

So far I've scanned about 30 to 40 articles on Garza, and haven't found any footprints on either.

I like Garza very much. I doubt this will be the last we see of him either.

I don't know enough yet to know if I like Tony Garza, but his editorial at #54 sounds hopeful.

I agree, this isn't the last we've seen of him.

Oh Really? Here is a Reagan Quote that you may not want to see

Give me a break. Did I strike a nerve with the "family values don't stop at the Rio Grande nonsense?

I told you on another thread Reagan's amnesty was a mistake, a big one, and I doubt he would repeat it. But that is exactly what Bush and the Republicans want to do. It's stupid and suicidal not only for the Republican Party, but for the country. Bush is killing his base with this pandering, for what, to get 30% of the Hispanic vote? He's fooling himself if he thinks he's getting more than that no matter how much he kisses their rumps.

Immigration is one, the assault weapons ban is another.

Both are biggies with Conservative voters.

Could it be he doesn't think he will need that "base" if he gets the Big tent full without us?

Remember his dad ?

Well, I am sure to get flamed to death for this comment, but as much as I see RINOs like Hull being problems for reform, I think the Tancredos are just as bad. Borderline jingoism alienates the voters and the votes we need to get reform.

LOL--as stupid as I felt at the time for starting that thread, I sure wish there were some way to bring it back once in a while. There are some of the cleverest, funniest, craziest posts to that thread that I think have ever been written. I wasn't smart enough to make a copy of it, but I do remember that every time I read it, I would be ROTFLMBO!

These days, we can all use a good hearty laugh!

I think it is you with the struck nerve. I am tired of Reagan being used against Bush. There are so many "Reagan would never have done this" assertions made and every one can be shown that Reagan did do it. The ONLY thing that Bush has not done that Reagan did is to raise taxes or to pull troops out of harms way when casualties were taken.

Probably because he hasn't been in a position where that would be an issue he would be facing. We can infer that since he hasn't gone out of his way to make his views on the issue well known that he 1) isn't out there pushing hard for amnesty, and 2) isn't out there pushing hard against amnesty.

As I said earlier in the thread, the real bad choice would have been Hull. I was cringing when I had seen her name floated, and I would LOVE to know if her name was floated by the administration or if it was floated by someone trying to get the administration to consider her. She is almost rabidly for a more liberal stance on immigration.

You have just stated the fear of every homeowner that does not live in the upper middle class neighborhood.

What kind of neighbors will we get? If they can not afford the house without US paying for it how will they do upkeep and maintaince........I guess that is not an issue in the gated communities of the wealthy.....

It is interesting to because it will change the demographics of the districts...and not in the pubbie favor

As an ambassador he has significant sway with what he decides is a priority. If he decides that reports delivered to him about Illegal Immigration being rampant are not important then they don't get discussed when dealing with Mexico.
