July 31, 2002 -- JERUSALEM - Israel has canceled an Albert Einstein exhibit in China after Beijing officials insisted there be no reference to his being Jewish or a supporter of the Jewish state, a government spokesman said yesterday.

The collection of Einstein memorabilia was to open in Beijing next month and travel to five other Chinese cities, in the biggest cultural exchange ever between the two countries.

Aryan physics and Yellow Aryans come to mind.

"If my theory of relativity is proven correct, Germany will claim me as a German and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world. Should my theory prove untrue, France will say that I am a German and Germany will declare that I am a Jew."

I initially misread the title as "Feinstein too Jewish for China". Had a good chuckle over that one.

Gee, you'd think the fact that he was a socialist would've greased the skids for him.

"The economic anarchy of capitalist society as it exists today is, in my opinion, the real source of the evil."

Why Socialism, by Albert Einstein

Now you know why Time approves of him.

I don't find this surpriseing. Most of the chinese (proc) I work with are *extremely* anti-jewish. Foamingly at the mouth so in fact. One of them even stated that our support of Israel 'deserved' us 9/11. Typical. They seem to channel Chomsky and all the nasty al-jazeera stuff you hear.

If Einstein had remained as in love with Socialism as you claim, China would embrace him. And people change. David Horowitz was a leftie, now he's a Conservative icon.

Those quoted words were his, not mine, and as far as I know they were never retracted. I'd love to be proven wrong... be my guest.

I swear, the title reminded me of Blazing Saddles:

"I got it! I know how we can run everybody out of Rock Ridge...
We'll kill the firstborn male child of every household." - Mr. Taggart (Slim Pickens)
"Too Jewish." - Hedley Lamarr (Harvey Korman)

Horowitz is the exception, Eistein the rule. I would also add, though, that following WWII I would think that many Jews could be forgiven (to a degree) for embracing socialism. I would, however, be proud had they embraced republicanism instead.

It is my understanding that Einstein never repudiated socialism.

If that was supposed to be funny it wasn't. I know plenty of non-Jews with "big honkers".

Einstein, while one of the five or ten greatest physicists who ever lived, was a monstrous human being. He fathered an illegitimate daughter by Mileva Maric in 1902, but forced her to give the child up for adoption. He later married Mileva, then abandoned her [the feminists believe he stole her work as well, though I'm dubious] in favor of his cousin, the divorcée Elsa Loewenthal [with whom he had had a lengthy affair during his marriage to Mileva]. He is remembered as a steely cold, even hateful husband [I treat my wife as an employee whom I cannot fire], and as a ruthless adulterer, whose children's lifelong health problems are suspected to stem from his own syphilis. In politics, he was a recalcitrant stalinist, with membership in more than 30 marxist organizations, many of which explicitly advocated the violent overthrow of the United States. After the second war, he carried on a treasonous affair with the adulteress Margarita Konenkova, herself a spy for the Soviet Union. The fact that he is remembered with any fondness whatsoever is a tribute to the extraordinary power of good marketing and a friendly press. Some links:

The Chinese hate him because he didn't charge them to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom.

Seriously, though: They ought to treasure him as a marxist icon. The reason they don't has a lot to do with the Sino-Fascism that John Derbyshire has catalogued so eloquently.

Since when were the Chinese interested in Jews or Isreal?
Seems like they would be 2 non issues in China. It's not like Albert is visiting for tea, or sympathy, or anything too embarrassing. Just a little name dropping. Shouldn't hurt anyone. Y'a just never can tell who's gonna flake and cave to PC. They blinked.

Advanced military equipment that the chicoms could never produce on their own that we helped create. Then again the zionists want us to believe that Isreal is our ally.

I don't think that's true. The Chinese government is anti-all religions. But I doubt that very many Chinese Americans don't like Jews.

I'm not sure what kind of Chinese you know, but none of the Chinese I know have any problems with Jews.

I believe the 9/11 comment stems from the fact that we are seen as the world's policeman. I don't think it has much to do with Jews per se.

By the way, I don't think I'd poke too hard at their English skills if I were you.

"Brush_Your_Teeth signed up 2002-07-15."

"Then again the zionists want us to believe that Isreal is our ally."

As opposed to the pals who danced in the streets on 9/11 and just killed 5 Americans, Saudis who financed 9/11, Iraqis who want to use WMD on us, and traitors like you who won't last long on FR.

Wash your mouth with soap.

OOP, my bad grammer, not theirs. Parapharased, their discussion was something like this....we support Israel, Israel is evil and has no right to exist...who do these nasty Israelis think they are taking land away from these Arabs who've always lived there. No wonder these Arabs want to bomb us...

Since China doesn't particularly care for India either, they'll pick Pakistan/Wahabbism's side in the Kashmir conflict too. What they don't stop to think about is that the Saudis and others are funding and building mosques hand over fist in China(especially western China) and Jihad will be in THEIR backyard before long. I also should have been more explicit and said these were Chinese from the mainland, I haven't encountered any very anti-semitic Taiwanese and it never occurred to me that mainland Chinese would be any different. Oh yeah, guess which side these guys took in the 'surveillance plane' episode? (hint, not the US's even though two of them are 'nationalized' citizens...yay, fifth column here we come!)

Yes, they can be criticized for selling to the Chinese. I am curious, though. Was this during the world boycott on trade with Israel? They are much criticized for trading with South Africa during Apartheid. But I know for a fact that this was during a time when the rest of the world was isolating them by refusing to trade with them. They were more or less forced into it in that case, and there was much objection to it within Israel itself (where dissent is actually allowed and takes place vociferously and constantly).
