FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- One of two accused terrorists who reportedly planned to blow up a South Florida power plant pleaded guilty today in federal court. Imran Mandhai (pictured) admitted to planning to attack South Florida power stations and a National Guard armory in a "jihad" mission. He was convicted of one count of conspiracy to damage and destroy property by means of fire and explosives. His co-conspirator, Shueyb Mossa Jokhan, pleaded guilty to the same charge July, 25.
Both men were also accused of seeking AK-47 assault rifles.
Mandhai and Jokhan face up to 20 years behind bars and up to $250,000 in fines.
Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 17.

FORT LAUDERDALE Browards second amateur terrorist pleaded guilty Thursday morning to a single conspiracy count in federal court.
Imran Mandhai, a 19-year-old community college student from Hollywood, pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to use arson or explosives to destroy property used in interstate commerce -- the Florida Power & Light plant at Port Everglades, other substations in Broward, among other targets.

I wonder what their actual sentence will be, given that this was a plea bargain--probably a whole lot less than 20 years.

Does that even matter?
Are we ever going to use the tribunals?

Amateur terrorists, huh? Is that supposed to make us feel better? Atta, Jarrah, and Hanjour were amateur pilots too, but they got it right the first time and killed 3000 people! Do these idiots in the press really think there are "professional" terrorists out there that have blown up hundreds of buildings?? They're ALL amateurs the first time!

During WWII, German sabateurs were landed by submarine. They were caught, tried by tribunal and executed. A few of them were naturalized citizens.
How is this any different?

"How is this any different?"We didn't have the ACLU then.

Imran Mandhai ?Shueyb Mossa Jokhan ?How much do you want to bet these guys could waltz through airport security while Ole and Lena Oleson from Bemidji, Minnesota are being strip searched on their way to an AARP convention?
I guess profiling based on their country of origin or their names would not have helped here...

These scum will just keep clogging up our justice system and prisons - I resent having to house and feed the vermin of the world that wants to bring the USofA down.
Howsabout just.....well, I guess I can't say that - it would be insensitive, and we know how that would offend some of our liberal friends. Whoa...howsabout including the liberals with the scum in the plan I can't talk about?
That would solve everything!

WTF are these jerks doing in America in the first place?
Did they ever show up for classes at their Podunk University?
Did they ever report to any police jurisdiction or post office or INS office, or whatever they were supposed to do?
Did they overstay their student visas, after never enrolling in the first place?
And why is Bush allowing this sort of pseudo-immigration to continue as if 9/11 never happened?
Go ahead, lock these guys up and throw away the key.
Nevertheless, today and every day, as always, there will be dozens more Tommy Towelheads checking into their dorms at the University of Florida, Purdue University, and elsewhere. It's ridiculous!
And Bush won't stop it because he is trolling for votes for 2004, and doesn't want to alienate the deans and fuzzy-headed professors, and anyone with pigmentation in the skin.
It is truly Clintonian behavior from our POTUS, who is selling us and our children down the river, for his own hide's sake.

Excellent question! I almost forgot about them until you reminded me. What will it take for Americans to wake up?

Hope he has an "accident" while in jail. That would be nice, but it'll never happen. Most of his cell mates will also be Muslim.

Last Sunday I flew from Daytona Beach to Marathon and back. On the return leg I was under flight following from Homestead ATC, they emphatically warned me to avoid the power plant that sits off the coast. I complied thank you very much.

Well, professional terrorists would be the ones who send someone else while they skim off the underground financing.
Arafat, in my book is a professional. A professional terrorist. And it would be a great injustice to take him out with anything less than a professional band of ass-kickers. I'm thinking maybe US Marines, but that's not set in stone....just a suggestion.

Why 20 years in prison? Crisp the critters for terrorism!
To: lilylangtree
It makes me sick to think all they'll get is 3 square meals a day, exercise equipment, access to lawyers and law books, etc. They'll be eating and relaxing better than many true Americans.

FYI the ACLU was founded in 1920.

I'm coming into this news very late, due to not being on FR much last week. What amazes me, however, is that I'm a radio junkie, and I NEVER heard this reported. Just heard about it this morning.
