USF Redefines Al-Arian Case

TAMPA - The University of South Florida today will change its plans for firing Professor Sami Al-Arian in two significant ways, formally accusing him of terrorist ties and asking a court whether its case would violate his right to free speech.

At a 10 a.m. news conference, USF President Judy Genshaft will not dismiss Al-Arian, as she announced eight months ago she intended to do. Instead, she will unveil a greatly expanded case against him, arguing that his willful disruption of the school began not after Sept. 11 but with links to terrorists in 1988.

It sure took them long enough. The documentation has been out there long enough.

While O'Reilly is often an arrogant fool, he did a good job of forcing this guy out. The info was in the public realm for a good while before anyone did anything about it, and my hat's off to Bill for doing what the press is SUPPOSED to do! (The Congress, the FBI, and the University all knew about this guy but did nothing. O'Reilly served as our check by publically forcing the issue.)

Okay, O'Reilly--you got this @ss out of our schools and away from our kids; think you could get the FBI to do something? If not, feel free to air the program in Israel....

And just a few days ago, Sami's brother found a country to take him, so we're rid of one of them. But I find the University's strategy interesting. Instead of firing him outright, they're going to expand the case to include Sami sponsoring terrorism. And that's A Good Thing.

If he lied on his citizenship application, he could have his citizenship revoked, and therefore subject to deportation.

But a little while ago in either the Tampa Tribune or the St. Petersburg Times, I read that there was a grand jury investigating Sami. It'd be better if he was indicted and convicted, served some prison time THEN deported.
