Scientists reveal ideal European nose size

Swiss scientists have worked out the ideal dimensions for a European nose.

They say at the age of 30, the average European man's nose is 5.8cm long, and sticks out 2.6cm from the face.

For a woman of the same age, the average length is 5.1cm with 2.2cm sticking out.

In the first research of its kind, scientists and doctors have put together growth charts showing normal nose sizes for every age group from newborn to 97.

The aim of the research, reported in the American Journal of Medical Genetics, is to help doctors diagnose particular syndromes where nose size can be an early symptom of disease.

The Independent on Sunday says Swiss researchers looked at more than 2,500 European noses, around 50 from each age group.

The team measured the length, the distance the nose sticks out, and the distance between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip, known as the philtrum.

Findings also show nose size and protrusion to be larger in males. Continual growth development could be expected throughout adulthood because noses are mainly formed of cartilage which, unlike the bony structures of the head, continue to enlarge.

By the time a man reaches his 97th birthday, his nose is likely to be at least 6.6cm long while a woman's nose at the same age will have grown to 6.1cm.

The researchers say the data only works for those of European descent.

This is another example of pseudoscientific cr@p that gets research funding. It would be funny except that tax dollars are wasted. I'm sure you could find dozens of similar "research projects" in the us.

I am an ENT surgeon and I am unaware of any diseases that can be diagnosed by nose size. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

I don't know about it's dimensions but, considering their fawning support for middle-east dictatorships I'm betting it was brown in color.

I go next Friday to have an MRI for the tumor in my left ear. I checked my nose. Nope. Same size.

Who Knows?

The nose knows!

Which brings up another point (excuse the pun) if nose size, in some way, is an indicator of health then judging by the size and color of Clinton's nose ... he must be one sick SOB. Then again, I guess we knew that ...

Well, there's certainly one that can be diagnosed by a substantial positive rate of change of nose size.

I believe it's called the Clinton Avowal Syndrome.

Methinks the Europroboscis is rather unsubstantial, perhaps like the Eurotestis. Regards.

Now that the scientists have discovered the "ideal" size, will the bureaucrats make it mandatory?

I don't know one where size matters, but position is crucial. In naso-anal proximity, ie nose in someones rectal fundament, there is a high correlation with being a liberal Clinton supporter, and therefore one of subnormal intelligence and probable insanity.

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes are rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes
It takes to fill the Albert Hall
I'd love to turn...you...on...

Such as the disease of not being Swiss enough.

Early research seems to indicate that the greatest incidence of hypernasia are to be found among the populations of southern and eastern Europe, whereas hyponasia is common in Ireland.

An arithmetic mean of 2.3 cm is buried up Muslim rear end.

When these standards are applied to Billy Jeff Clinton, it's probably a symptom of drug abuse!
