HI! As a long time lurker and sometimes poster, I finally have a question worth starting a thread about (I hope)! I am looking for a GOOD conservative rebuttal list for those darn Liberal and Democratic (was that repeating myself?) fools who have no idea whats going on in the world. A recent example would be those who think that MR. Hussein is not a threat to the US, or that the whole African famine bit is because of the drought. I have in mind a format similar to what many of the great pro-second ammendment sites have for download, sort of a THEY SAY...... YOU SAY/THE FACTS sort of thing broken down by issue...... Any links would be GREATLY appreciated, since I usually am so floored by these types of ignorance I often have a hard time articulating why such people are so WRONG.
When I first read the title, I mistook the last word for reputations and believed that I'd be precluded from posting on this thread.
I don't have any links at the moment, but since I'm here, I'll give ya a little bump!
It is frustrating, but that is a fact of life.
"For 50 years liberals have been wrong about everything, why should we believe them now"
She is SO right, Social Security, the Soviet Union, Global Cooling, The Great Society, Desert Storm, Welfare Reform............I could go on and on, but you get the idea.
If you haven't read her book, you should. It will give you a lot of irrefutable facts, and a lot of confidence.
I'll bet just about everything that is publically know about Sadam Hussein could be found by searching the FR archives using terms such as "Hussein" or "Hussein AND weapons".
It's quite amazing how much material is here, right at your fingertips.
And all of the articles are FReer-reviewed and inspected for reliability!
Nobody wishes this, but your fears are well founded. Politics is war faught by other means, and it only works when each side agrees to accept the results of the vote.
Today, both sides are so polarized, that we can no longer understand the words the each side uses. If a Liberal tell me that the sky is purple, I will walk outside to verify it.
After the year 2000 election, we must find an alternative, or this nation will eventually fight another Civil War.
I pray that I am wrong!
You can go to a relevant thread, put forth an argument, and see the responses.
If there are weaknesses or flaws in your position, others will be delighted to point them out!
You could then use your "my comments" section as a marker for a set of talking points that have been FReer reviewed.
Do a search on this site. Clive and Cincinnatus Wife have posted many, many articles on the Africa situation.
P.J. O'Rourke pointed out something in one of his books that I had never considered before, but it is a complete refutation of the famine argument:
There has never been a faimine in a democratic country.
Than kind of puts things into perspective.
I have a hunch that somewhere in the vast stretch between left and right, lies the truth. Not every truth lies in the middle, but they're spread pretty evenly across the spectrum.
I think you would be very hard pressed to support this statement with anything tangible. At best, it's an offer of compromise for the sake of peace in a nation full of divergent opinion. What is this spectrum? Of what does it consist?
In the conflict between right and left the relevant issue is not "truth," but politics; the policy determining when the coercive power of government should be activated. On the left, they believe that power should be used to influence their fellows to pursue happiness according to the dictates of the left's heart. On the right, we believe it should be used to support the social contract whereby citizens pursue happiness according to the dictates of their own hearts.
Think that formulation is too simplistic?
In living memory, what has the right forced the left to submit to? The left, despite all protests to the contrary, has no real fear of being repressed by the right. Even the arch-enemies of all liberals deem holy, the pro-lifers, have kept the peace and maintained civil tranquility for 30 years. That, in the face of illegitimate quasi-legislation that pro-lifers consider the greatest evil since the Holocaust. In fact, they have been so peaceful the left is now contemptuous of the pro-lifers. No longer satisfied with the restraint shown by the pro-lifers, the left now seeks to use the coercive power of government to prevent them from even becoming annoying.
I submit to you that not only is your "hunch" wrong; it is the pretty flower atop a malevolent weed that feeds by consuming our understanding of how a free society tests the quality of ideas: both old and new.
Well I don't have the complete financial breakdown, but I'd venture to guess parents who think they're to be commended for throwing money and children at them.
